Laurence Joseph "Laurie" Maher is the former mayor of Gosford City Council and the former CEO of Coast Shelter, a non-profit homelessness service assisting people in the Central Coast region of New South Wales, Australia. Coast Shelter and Community Service Maher founded Coast Shelter in 1992 and held the position of CEO until his retirement in July 2018. In 2009, Maher was presented with an Award for Services to the Aboriginal Community by the Darkinjung Local Aboriginal Land Council. The City of Gosford is a former local government area located on the Central Coast region, in the state of New South Wales, Australia. The incorporation of Gosford dates back to 1886 when the Town of Gosford was proclaimed as the ''Borough of Gosford'', becoming the ''Municipality of Gosford'' from 1906. In 1908, the Gosford Municipality merged into Erina Shire which covered the remaining Central Coast area outside of Gosford, but regained its independence in 1936. From 1 January 1947, local government in the Central Coast region was reorganised, creating ''Gosford Shire'' and Wyong Shire, and the final boundaries of Gosford City Council date from this period. From 1 January 1980, Gosford Shire was granted city status, becoming the City of Gosford. On 12 May 2016 the Minister for Local Government amalgamated the City of Gosford and Wyong Shire Councils. Malcolm Brooks
Malcolm Harold Brooks (16 June 1930 – 19 June 2020) was an Australian politician who served as member of the New South Wales Legislative Assembly for the district of Gosford from 1973 to 1976 and as Shire President and Mayor of the City of Gosford. A member of the Liberal Party, Brooks was a councillor on Gosford Council from 1971. In 1973 he was elected Member for Gosford but lost the following election to Labor candidate Brian McGowan by 70 votes. Brooks re-entered local government at the following election and was a Councillor, Shire President and City Mayor through to his unsuccessful re-election attempt as an independent councillor in the 2008 New South Wales Local Government Elections. Lawrie McKinna
Lawrie McKinna (born 8 July 1961) is a Scottish-Australian former football player, coach, and former Mayor of Gosford City Council. In 2012, McKinna stood for election as an independent for City of Gosford. Lawrie was successful in gaining a seat, and was elected by his fellow councillors Mayor of Gosford City on 24 September. He was removed from his position as Mayor, as a result of the amalgamation of Gosford and Wyong Councils on 12 May 2016. Lawrie unsuccessfully stood as a candidate in the September 2013 Federal election for the seat of Robertson. His campaign was backed by John Singleton to the tune of $380,000. While receiving 8.7% of the vote, Singleton and McKinna controversially decided the outcome of the seat by directing preference votes to the conservative Liberal Party candidate Ms Lucy Wicks. Coast Shelter (registered as Central Coast Emergency Accommodation Services Ltd.) is a non-profit organisation supporting homeless young people, adults and women and children experiencing domestic & family violence in the Central Coast region of New South Wales, Australia.
