Laurie Icke
Laurie Icke (22 July 1929 – 26 September 2010) was an Australian rules footballer who played with North Melbourne in the Victorian Football League (VFL). Icke, a half back, started his career at Ballarat East, in the Ballarat Football League. In 1952 he was granted a permit to play for North Melbourne, after the VFL Permit Committee rejected a claim by Fitzroy that the defender had lived in Preston for 13 weeks, which would have tied him to the club, but Icke said it had only been six weeks. He missed just one game in 1952 and played 15 of the first 16 rounds of the 1953 season, before suffering a thigh injury. In 1954 he made 13 appearances, including North Melbourne's semi-final loss to Melbourne, which he played as a full-back. During the semi-final he was reporting for striking Ron Barassi and was suspended for the opening four rounds of the 1955 season. Steven Icke
Steven Icke (born 7 March 1956) is a former Australian rules footballer who played for North Melbourne and Melbourne in the Victorian Football League (VFL). Originally from Federal Football League club Noble Park, Icke was a versatile player, usually seen at half forward or half back. He was a premiership player with North Melbourne in 1977 and at the end of the 1981 season moved to the Melbourne Demons. In his debut season he won the Keith 'Bluey' Truscott Medal for Melbourne's best and fairest player. His career was shortened after snapping his Achilles tendon on an exposed sprinkler box at VFL Park in 1983, followed by a knee reconstruction three years later. Icke served as the General Manager of Football Operations at the Carlton Football Club between March 2007 and September 2011. He was then replaced by Andrew McKay in the position. The Ararat Football Club, nicknamed the ''Rats'', is an Australian rules football and netball club based in the city of Ararat, Victoria. The football team currently competes in the Wimmera Football League (WFL). History Formed in 1871, Ararat won eight premierships in the Wimmera and District Football Association during the early 20th century. From 1924 to 1928, they played in the Ballarat Football League. They did not return to the Wimmera league until 1930, as they were forced to sit out of the competition for a year as punishment for their earlier defection. The Wimmera Football League is a major Australian rules country league based in Western Victoria, with clubs located in towns in the Wimmera region: the regional centres along the Western Highway from Ararat to Nhill as well as Minyip-Murtoa and Warracknabeal. History A Wimmera Football Association was first formed in 1902, with teams from Ararat, Horsham and Stawell as the founding clubs. In 1921 the Wimmera District Football League was formed. Mick Grambeau
Mick Grambeau (1 January 1930 – 21 May 2013) was a former Australian rules footballer who played with North Melbourne in the Victorian Football League (VFL). Grambeau played for Sandringham Football Club in the Victorian Football Association (VFA) and was selected to represent the VFA at the 1950 Brisbane Carnival. In 1955, following North Melbourne's round 11 loss to a weak St Kilda side by seven points, Grambeau and Laurie Icke were dismissed from the club. The pair were notified of the committee's decision by mail, with no reason given. The two players received support from their teammates, who held a club meeting on the Sunday where they unanimously agreed that the action of the committee was unconstitutional.
