Laurent Saloff-Coste
Laurent Saloff-Coste (born 1958) is a French mathematician whose research is in Analysis, Probability theory, and Geometric group theory. Saloff-Coste received his "doctorat de 3eme cycle" in 1983 at the Pierre and Marie Curie University, Paris VI. He completed his "Doctorat d'Etat" in 1989 under Nicholas Varopoulos. In the 1990s, he worked as "Directeur de Recherche" (CNRS) at Paul Sabatier University in Toulouse. Since 1998, he is a professor of Mathematics at Cornell University in Ithaca, New York, where he was chair from 2009 to 2015. Saloff-Coste works in the areas of analysis and probability theory, including problems involving geometry and partial differential equations. In particular, he has studied the behavior of diffusion processes on manifolds and their fundamental solutions, in connection to the geometry of the underlying spaces. Analysis
Analysis ( : analyses) is the process of breaking a complex topic or substance into smaller parts in order to gain a better understanding of it. The technique has been applied in the study of mathematics and logic since before Aristotle (384–322 B.C.), though ''analysis'' as a formal concept is a relatively recent development. Rollo Davidson Prize
The Rollo Davidson Prize is a prize awarded annually to early-career probabilists by the Rollo Davidson trustees. It is named after English mathematician Rollo Davidson (1944–1970). Rollo Davidson Trust In 1970, Rollo Davidson, a Fellow-elect of Churchill College, Cambridge died on Piz Bernina, a mountain in Switzerland. In 1975, a trust fund was established at Churchill College in his memory, endowed initially through the publication in his honour of two volumes of papers, edited by E. F. Harding and D. G. Kendall. The Rollo Davidson Trust has awarded an annual prize to young probabilists since 1976, and has organized occasional lectures in honour of Davidson. Persi Warren Diaconis (; born January 31, 1945) is an American mathematician of Greek descent and former professional magician. He is the Mary V. Sunseri Professor of Statistics and Mathematics at Stanford University. Harry Kesten
Harry Kesten (November 19, 1931 – March 29, 2019) was an American mathematician best known for his work in probability, most notably on random walks on groups and graphs, random matrices, branching processes, and percolation theory. Biography Kesten grew up in the Netherlands, where he moved with his parents in 1933 to escape the Nazis. He received his PhD in 1958 at Cornell University under supervision of Mark Kac. He was an instructor at Princeton University and the Hebrew University before returning to Cornell in 1961. Kesten died on March 29, 2019, in Ithaca at the age of 87.
