Laurent Clozel
Laurent Clozel (born October 23, 1953 in Gap) is a French mathematician. His mathematical work is in the area of automorphic forms, including major advances on the Langlands programme Career and distinctions Clozel was a student at the École normale supérieure and later obtained a Ph.D. under Michel Duflo He is currently a full professor at the Université Paris-Sud in Orsay. He received the Prix Élie Cartan of the French Academy for his work on base change for automorphic forms. He was an invited speaker at the 1986 International congress of mathematicians in Berkeley , talking about "Base change for GL(''n'')". Together with Richard Taylor, Nicholas Shepherd-Barron and Michael Harris he proved the Sato–Tate conjecture. Gap, Hautes-Alpes
Gap (, ) is the prefecture of the Hautes-Alpes department in the Provence-Alpes-Côte d'Azur region in Southeastern France. In 2019, the commune had a population of 40,631, making it the most populated city in Hautes-Alpes. At a height of 750 metres above sea level, to the south of the Écrins Massif, it is also France's highest prefecture. Richard Taylor (mathematician)
Richard Lawrence Taylor (born 19 May 1962) is a British mathematician working in the field of number theory. He is currently the Barbara Kimball Browning Professor in Humanities and Sciences at Stanford University. Taylor received the 2015 Breakthrough Prize in Mathematics "for numerous breakthrough results in the theory of automorphic forms, including the Taniyama–Weil conjecture, the local Langlands conjecture for general linear groups, and the Sato–Tate conjecture." He also received the 2007 Shaw Prize in Mathematical Sciences for his work on the Langlands program with Robert Langlands. He also served on the Mathematical Sciences jury for the Infosys Prize from 2012 to 2014. Luc Illusie
Luc Illusie (; born 1940) is a French mathematician, specializing in algebraic geometry. His most important work concerns the theory of the cotangent complex and deformations, crystalline cohomology and the De Rham–Witt complex, and logarithmic geometry. In 2012, he was awarded the Émile Picard Medal of the French Academy of Sciences. Biography Luc Illusie entered the École Normale Supérieure in 1959. At first a student of the mathematician Henri Cartan, he participated in the Cartan–Schwartz seminar of 1963–1964. In 1964, following Cartan's advice, he began to work with Alexandre Grothendieck, collaborating with him on two volumes of the latter's Séminaire de Géométrie Algébrique du Bois Marie. Shing-Tung Yau
Shing-Tung Yau (; ; born April 4, 1949) is a Chinese-American mathematician and the William Caspar Graustein Professor of Mathematics at Harvard University. In April 2022, Yau announced retirement from Harvard to become Chair Professor of mathematics at Tsinghua University. Yau was born in Shantou, China, moved to Hong Kong at a young age, and to the United States in 1969. He was awarded the Fields Medal in 1982, in recognition of his contributions to partial differential equations, the Calabi conjecture, the positive energy theorem, and the Monge–Ampère equation. Barry Mazur
Barry Charles Mazur (; born December 19, 1937) is an American mathematician and the Gerhard Gade University Professor at Harvard University. His contributions to mathematics include his contributions to Wiles's proof of Fermat's Last Theorem in number theory, Mazur's torsion theorem in arithmetic geometry, the Mazur swindle in geometric topology, and the Mazur manifold in differential topology. Sato–Tate Conjecture
In mathematics, the Sato–Tate conjecture is a statistical statement about the family of elliptic curves ''Ep'' obtained from an elliptic curve ''E'' over the rational numbers by reduction modulo almost all prime numbers ''p''. Mikio Sato and John Tate independently posed the conjecture around 1960. If ''Np'' denotes the number of points on the elliptic curve ''Ep'' defined over the finite field with ''p'' elements, the conjecture gives an answer to the distribution of the second-order term for ''Np''. By Hasse's theorem on elliptic curves, :N_p/p = 1 + \mathrm(1/\!\sqrt)\ as p\to\infty, and the point of the conjecture is to predict how the O-term varies. Michael Harris (mathematician)
Michael Howard Harris (born 1954) is an American mathematician and professor of mathematics at Columbia University who specializes in number theory and representation theory. He made notable contributions to the Langlands program, for which he (alongside Richard Taylor) won the 2007 Clay Research Award. In particular, he (jointly with Taylor) proved the local Langlands conjecture for GL(''n'') over a ''p''-adic local field , and he was part of the team that proved the Sato–Tate conjecture.
