Laurent Cantet
Laurent Cantet (; born 11 April 1961) is a French director, cinematographer and screenwriter. His film ''Entre les murs'' (''The Class (2008 film), The Class'') won the top prize at the Cannes Film Festival in 2008. Biography Laurent Cantet was born in 1961 in the town of Melle, Deux-Sèvres in western France; his parents were schoolteachers. He went to university in Marseille to study photography, and then entered the Institut des Hautes Études Cinématographiques (IDHEC) in Paris where he graduated in 1986 His colleagues at IDHEC included Dominik Moll, Gilles Marchand and Robin Campillo. After initially working in television, he became assistant director to Marcel Ophuls for ''Veillées d'armes'' (1994), a documentary about the siege of Sarajevo. He went on to make some short films, often in collaboration with colleagues from film school. Melle, Deux-Sèvres
Melle () is a commune in the Deux-Sèvres department in western France. On 1 January 2019, the former communes Mazières-sur-Béronne, Paizay-le-Tort, Saint-Léger-de-la-Martinière and Saint-Martin-lès-Melle were merged into Melle. It is today best known as the home town of Ségolène Royal, the 2007 Socialist candidate for the election of the Presidency of the Republic. The director Laurent Cantet was born here as well as the archaeologist Gaston Deschamps (1861–1931). Louis Delluc Prize For Best First Film
The Louis Delluc Prize (french: Prix Louis-Delluc ) is a French film award presented annually since 1937. The award is bestowed to the Best Film and Best First Film of the year on the second week of each December. The jury is composed of 20 members, consisting of a group of film critics and figures who are culturally significant. Gilles Jacob is the president. The meeting is at ''le Fouquet's'' restaurant in Champs-Élysées. The ''7 d'Or'' or ''Sept d'Or'' ( French for "Seven of Gold" or "Golden Seven") was a French television production award (similar in nature to the Emmy Awards), presented by '' Télé 7 Jours'' (a weekly French magazine with listings of TV shows). The awards were presented in the fall of each year from 1985 to 2003 (no awards were presented in 1992, 1998 and 2002) during a televised "Night of the 7 d'Or" awards ceremony (1988 and 2003 were not televised).
