Laurens, South Carolina
Laurens is a city in Laurens County, South Carolina, United States. The population was 9,139 at the 2010 census. It is the county seat of Laurens County. History Located in upstate South Carolina, the city of Laurens is named after Henry Laurens, a South Carolina merchant and rice planter who was one of America's wealthiest slave traders. He was a delegate to and second president of the Continental Congress and served as a diplomat. It is part of the Greenville– Mauldin– Easley Metropolitan Statistical Area. Laurens was established by an act of the General Assembly on March 15, 1785, as a location for commercial activities. Laurens County is a county located in the U.S. state of South Carolina. As of the 2020 census, its population was 67,539. Its county seat is Laurens. Laurens County is included in the Greenville-Anderson- Mauldin, SC Metropolitan Statistical Area. History Laurens County was formed on March 12, 1785. Laurens County Courthouse
Laurens County Courthouse is a historic courthouse located at Laurens, South Carolina, Laurens, Laurens County, South Carolina. History It was constructed in 1837–1838, and is a granite ashlar and brick Greek Revival architecture, Greek Revival style building. The original projecting porticoes in the front and rear have four Corinthian order columns and two simple pilasters. Wings were added in 1858, and in 1911 further additions were made to the wings, the windows remodeled, and the Palladian stairways added. At this time the low elliptical dome was constructed. It was added to the National Register of Historic Places in 1972. It is located in the Laurens Historic District. James Dunklin House
James Dunklin House, also known as the Williams-Watts-Todd-Dunklin House, is a historic home located in Laurens, Laurens County, South Carolina. It was built about 1812, and is a two-story, five-bay, upcountry farmhouse, or I-house. It features informally spaced columns and two pipe-stem chimneys. An 1845 wing was removed in 1950 and converted into a six-room apartment building located behind the main house. At this time a first-floor sun porch was added to the rear of the house. Also on the property are outbuildings including a renovated slave cabin, a garage apartment, and a reconstruction of a kitchen at Colonial Williamsburg. It was added to the National Register of Historic Places in 1974. William Dunlap Simpson House
William Dunlap Simpson House is a historic home located at Laurens, Laurens County, South Carolina, USA. It was built about 1839 for a planter to use as his town house. The three-story, three bay, Greek Revival style clapboard dwelling has a total of twelve rooms. It was later the home of Congressman and South Carolina Governor William Dunlap Simpson (1823-1890).
