Lauren Anna Lee (born 12 February 2004) is an American-born female taekwondo practitioner who has competed for Haiti. Career A native of Maple Grove, Minnesota, Lee is the granddaughter of Grandmaster Byung Yul Lee, who helped bring the sport to the United States in 1969. After Florida-born Aliyah Shipman, who had won a spot for the 2020 Olympics in the Pan American qualifiers, was blocked from competing by the United States Olympic & Paralympic Committee, Lee was selected to replace her. Taekwondo
''Taekwondo'', ''Tae Kwon Do'' or ''Taekwon-Do'' (; ko, 태권도/跆拳道 ) is a Korean form of martial arts involving punching and kicking techniques, with emphasis on head-height kicks, spinning jump kicks, and fast kicking techniques. The literal translation for tae kwon do is "kicking", "punching", and "the art or way of". Aliyah (, ; he, עֲלִיָּה ''ʿălīyyā'', ) is the immigration of Jews from the diaspora to, historically, the geographical Land of Israel, which is in the modern era chiefly represented by the State of Israel.
