Laurel Massé
Laurel Massé (born December 29, 1951) is an American jazz singer and former member of The Manhattan Transfer. Career Massé was born in Holland, Michigan, grew up in Westchester County, New York, and lived in Europe during her teens. Early in school, she developed a fondness for classical music, particularly Beethoven, though she also cites the Beatles, Pablo Casals, and her grandfather as influences. Her grandfather sang with Fred Waring's Pennsylvanians, and her mother sang opera. Massé started on piano, played cello in her teens, and was her own teacher on guitar during the 1960s. She sang in the choir and belonged to rock bands in high school. She was unfamiliar with jazz until the age of 20. In 1972, Massé was working as a waitress in New York City when she stepped into a taxi driven by Tim Hauser. Massé and Hauser had the same ambition to be singers. Holland is a city in the western region of the Lower Peninsula of the U.S. state of Michigan. Tim Moore is an American pop singer and songwriter who recorded four albums for Asylum Records in the 1970s. Moore's songs were praised by critics and admired by a diverse range of peers including Keith Richards, Jimmy Webb, James Taylor and Michael McDonald. Career Early bands A self-taught musician, Moore grew up in Philadelphia, where he went to art school and played his early songs at local coffee houses. Carol Hall
Carol Hall (April 3, 1936 – October 11, 2018) was an American composer and lyricist. She was best known for composing the music and lyrics for the Broadway stage musical ''The Best Little Whorehouse in Texas'' (1978, adapted as a film in 1982). Her other works include the Broadway sequel ''The Best Little Whorehouse Goes Public'' (1994), as well as the Off-Broadway musical ''To Whom It May Concern'' (c. 1986). Career Hall was born in 1936 in Abilene, Texas, United States. She penned eight one-act plays, all under the title "The Days Are As Grass". ''Simplicity'' is the third album recorded by the English actor/singer Tim Curry, released in 1981 in music, 1981. Whereas his previous album ''Fearless (Tim Curry album), Fearless'' had been almost entirely original songs, ''Simplicity'' is a half-originals, half-covers mix and contains a wider variety of source material than the covers on his first album ''Read My Lips (Tim Curry album), Read My Lips'' (1978). ''The Manhattan Transfer Live'' was recorded by The Manhattan Transfer live at Manchester on April 23, 1978; Bristol on April 28, 1978; and the Hammersmith Odeon Theatre, London, on May 2, 1978. The album was produced by Tim Hauser and Janis Siegel. This was the final album made with Laurel Massé (due to a car accident in early 1979 and her decision to leave the group). It was not originally issued in the U.S. in 1978 but in 1979 it was released as an was issued as an Audiophile LP. A short-lived Japanese CD was released on October 10, 1987. The Manhattan Transfer (album)
''The Manhattan Transfer'' is the second album by The Manhattan Transfer. However, it is the first of four albums to be released by the lineup of Tim Hauser, Laurel Massé, Alan Paul, and Janis Siegel, and the first to establish the sound and style for which the group would become known. It was released on April 2, 1975, by Atlantic Records and was produced by Ahmet Ertegün and Tim Hauser. This incarnation of the group had been together for three years before this album was released. Ertegün, founder and chairman of Atlantic, attended one of their performances at the New York City cabaret Reno Sweeney. He offered them a contract, which they accepted.
