Lauracha
''Lauracha'' is a 1946 Argentine drama film directed by Arturo García Buhr, Ernesto Arancibia, Antonio Ber Ciani and Enrique Cahen Salaberry and starring Amelia Bence and García Buhr. The film was adapted for the screen by Hugo Mac Dougall, based on the Uruguayan novel of the same name by Otto Miguel Cione, which was originally published in 1906. Otto Miguel Cione
Otto Miguel Cione Falcone (15 August 1875 – 6 September 1945) was a Uruguayan journalist (using the pseudonym Martin Flores), dramatist and writer. His most successful play was ''El arlequín'' (1902), which was performed throughout the Spanish-speaking world. His novel ''Lauracha'' (1911) ran through several editions and was made into a film. Life Otto Miguel Cione was born in Asunción, Paraguay on 15 August 1875. His parents were Italian. His father was Pascual M. Cione and his mother was Angela Flacone. He moved to Uruguay at an early age, and became a citizen of that country. His father was a leading doctor, and insisted that he attend university, but he did not finish his studies. For some time he was Consul of Uruguay in Concordia, Entre Ríos, Argentina. Later he was Section Head of the National Labor Office, and then Librarian in the Secondary Education Section of the Universidad de Montevideo. Amelia Bence
Amelia Bence (born María Amelia Batvinik; 13 November 1919 – 8 February 2016) was an Argentine film actress and one of the divas of the Golden Age of Argentine Cinema (1940–60). Born to Belarusian Jewish immigrants, Bence began her career at a young age, studying with Alfonsina Storni at the Lavardén Children's Theater and with Mecha Quintana at the Conservatorio Nacional de Música y Declamación (National Conservatory of Music and Speech). She made her film debut in 1933, in only the second sound film of Argentina, ''Dancing'', by Luis Moglia Barth. Arturo García Buhr (16 December 1905 – 4 October 1995) was an Argentine actor and film director. He appeared in 30 films between 1933 and 1985. He starred in the film '' The Party Is Over'', which was entered into the 10th Berlin International Film Festival. At the 1943 Argentine Film Critics Association Awards, Buhr won the Silver Condor Award for Best Actor for his performance in ''The Kids Grow Up'' (''Los chicos crecen'') (1942). Pampa Film
Pampa Film was an Argentine film production company that was active in the 1930s and 1940s. It is known for its classic '' Prisioneros de la tierra'' (1939). History Pampa Film was founded in January 1937 by Warner Bros. in partnership with the local entrepreneur Olegario Ferrando. The company used the Lumiton facilities at first, and Lumiton was to distribute its films. Later the link with Lumiton was severed. Luis Saslavsky directed ''Sueño de Una Vide Nueva'' for Pampa Film, released in Argentina as '' La fuga'' by Warner Bros. on 28 July 1937 with music by César Gola. It was one of the hits of the year. Jorge Luis Borges praised the romantic comedy, saying it did not "suffer from fruitless images" but flowed "the way American films do." Kurt Landesberger (19 February 1913, Vienna, Austria – 13 July 1997 New York City) was an Austrian born Argentina, Argentine film director of the 1950s and 1960s. Born in Vienna, Land moved to Argentina in the 1930s and began as a film editor, editing for some 20 films in the 1940s. Hugo Mac Dougall
Hugo Mac Dougall, born Hugo Mascías (9 December 1901 – 15 May 1976 in Buenos Aires) was an Argentine writer, screenwriter, and journalist. At the 1943 Argentine Film Critics Association Awards, Mac Dougall won the Silver Condor Award for Best Original Screenplay for his work '' Malambo'' (1942). He won it again the following year for his script co-written with Rodolfo González Pacheco and Eliseo Montaine for ''Three Men of the River'' (''Tres hombres del río'')(1943). Biography His maternal grandfather was Hugh Mac Dougall, a Scottish man who emigrated to Argentina. He settled in the province of Entre Ríos, where he owned several ''estancias''. One of his daughters was Margarita Mac Dougall. She married José María Mascías, a Catalan immigrant born in Reus, Tarragona on April 17, 1864 and from this marriage was born Hugo Mascías Mac Dougall.
