Laura Mertens
Laura Mertens (born 25 May 1993) is a German freestyle wrestler. She won one of the bronze medals in the 58kg event at the 2017 European Wrestling Championships held in Novi Sad, Serbia. Career In 2010, Mertens competed in the girls' freestyle 46kg event at the Summer Youth Olympics without winning a medal. She lost her bronze medal match against Petra Olli of Finland. In 2013, Mertens competed in the women's 55kg event at the European Wrestling Championships held in Tbilisi, Georgia where she was eliminated in her second match by Emese Barka of Hungary. In 2020, Mertens competed in the women's 57kg event at the Individual Wrestling World Cup held in Belgrade, Serbia where she was eliminated in the repechage by Alyona Kolesnik of Azerbaijan. Amateur Wrestling
Amateur wrestling is a variant of wrestling practiced in collegiate, school, or other amateur level competitions. There are two international wrestling styles performed in the Olympic Games: freestyle and Greco-Roman. Both styles are under the supervision of the United World Wrestling (UWW; formerly known as FILA, from the French acronym for International Federation of Associated Wrestling Styles). A similar style, commonly called collegiate (also known as scholastic or folkstyle), is practiced in colleges and universities, secondary schools, middle schools, and among younger age groups in the United States. 2020 Individual Wrestling World Cup
The inaugural 2020 Individual World Wrestling Cup was held in Belgrade, Serbia from 12–18 December 2020. It was a replacement event for the 2020 World Championships, which should have taken place in the same location, but since some criteria were not fulfilled, such as not less than 8 top nations from the previous championships to participate, the event is not counted as world championships. The Cup took place amidst the COVID-19 pandemic, which caused this and other problems. The United States for instance chose not to participate. The 2021 World Wrestling Olympic Qualification Tournament was the last wrestling qualification tournament for the 2020 Summer Olympics in Tokyo, Japan. Alyona Kolesnik
Alyona Kolesnik (born 29 January 1995) is a Ukrainian-Azerbaijani freestyle wrestler. She is a three-time bronze medalist at the European Wrestling Championships. She is also a two-time silver medalist at the Islamic Solidarity Games. She won bronze in her event at the 2019 European Games. Career At the 2017 European Wrestling Championships held in Novi Sad, Serbia, she won one of the bronze medals in the women's 55 kg event. In 2018, she also won one of the bronze medals in the women's 57 kg and she repeated this in 2019 with another bronze medal in the same event.
