Laura Lee (born Laura Lee Newton; 9 March 1945 in Chicago, Illinois) is an American soul music, soul and gospel music, gospel singing, singer and songwriter, most successful in the 1960s and 1970s and influential for her gramophone record, records which discussed and celebrated women's experience. Career Lee was born in Chicago, but as a child moved to Detroit with her mother, Helen Bethel. The founder of a leading gospel group, Ernestine Rundless of Meditation Singers, The Meditation Singers was a trusted mentor. Featuring Della Reese, they were the first Detroit gospel group to perform with instrumental backing. The group sound recording and reproduction, recorded on the Specialty Records, Specialty record label, label in the mid-1950s, appeared on the album, LP ''Della Reese Presents The Meditation Singers'' in 1958, and in the early 1960s recorded for Checker Records. Laura Lee (25 April 1973 – 7 February 2018) was an Irish sex worker and civil rights activist, who became a campaigner for the rights of people in the sex industry. Biography Lee was born in Dublin, but moved to Scotland in 2003 where she lived in Kilmarnock, near Glasgow. She had previously begun her career in sex work at the age of 19 in a massage parlour. After moving to Scotland, she became an independent escort and frequently visited Dublin and Belfast for work and to campaign. Laura Lee Ochoa (born October 14, 1986), also known as Leezy, is an American musician and singer-songwriter, best known as the bass guitarist and one of the founding members of the musical trio Khruangbin. Biography The daughter of Mexican-American parents, Ochoa played piano and guitar as a child, but picked up bass at the suggestion of (then future) bandmate Mark Speer. Ochoa met him in 2009 through friends, where they initially connected over a shared love of Afghan music. Ochoa was an art history major with a focus on art of the ancient Near East.
