Laura Fortino
Laura Michele Fortino (born January 30, 1991) is a Canadian ice hockey player for Markham Thunder. On October 3, 2011, she was named to the Team Canada roster that participated in the 2011 4 Nations Cup. Of note, she was the first overall selection in the 2014 CWHL Draft. Playing career In 2004, Fortino played for the Hamilton Reps (Bantam AA Boys) and she won a silver medal at the Ontario provincials, with honourable mention going to her AA defence partner Kyle Rooney. As a member of Stoney Creek, she won a bronze medal at the 2007 PWHL championships. At the 2007 National Women's Under-18 Championships in Kitchener, Ontario, she won a gold medal with Ontario Red. The following year, Fortino won a gold medal with Stoney Creek at the OWHA provincials and at the PWHL championship of 2008. In 2007–08, Fortino led PWHL defencemen in scoring. Hamilton is a port city in the Canadian province of Ontario. 2008 IIHF World Women's U18 Championship
The 2008 IIHF World Women's U18 Championship was the inaugural junior female world ice hockey championship. It was held from 7 to 12 January 2008, in Calgary, Alberta, Canada. The championship is the junior ice hockey version of the women worlds, held under the auspices of the IIHF. Brampton Thunder
The Markham Thunder was a professional women's ice hockey team in the Canadian Women's Hockey League (CWHL). From 1998 through 2017, the franchise was known as the Brampton Thunder and Brampton Canadettes-Thunder before relocating from Brampton, Ontario, to Markham, Ontario, for the 2017–18 season. The CWHL ceased operations in 2019 and no further statements or actions were taken with the franchise. Team history The city of Brampton had a long history of women's ice hockey, starting with the creation of the Brampton Canadettes in 1963, whose management created the Dominion Ladies Hockey Tournament in 1967 (operating today as the Canadettes Easter Tournament). Fortinos is a Canadian supermarket chain that was founded in Hamilton, Ontario. It operates 23 stores across the western Greater Toronto and Hamilton Area. It is owned by Loblaw Companies Limited. History In 1961, Italian immigrant steelworker John Fortino opened his first Fortinos store in Hamilton, Ontario. In 1972, John took on seven partners and opened a second store on Hamilton Mountain. Molly Schaus
Molly Patricia Schaus (born July 29, 1988) is an American retired ice hockey goaltender and coach. As a member of the United States women's national ice hockey team, she was a two-time Olympic medalist and five-time World Championship medalist. She was drafted 2nd overall by the Boston Blades in the 2011 CWHL Draft. Early life Schaus was born in Voorhees, New Jersey and shortly after moved to the Minneapolis, Minnesota. There she learned to skate on the back yard pond with her brothers, Mike and Steve. At age 7 she and her family relocated to Naperville, Illinois and began her early years of formal hockey. Marie-Philip Poulin-Nadeau (born March 28, 1991) is a Canadian ice hockey forward, currently with the PWHPA and who serves as captain of the Canada women's national ice hockey team, Canadian national team. The 2014 CWHL Draft was held on August 19, 2014. With the first pick overall, the Brampton Thunder selected Laura Fortino from the Canadian National Women's Team.
