The Launceston Football Club, nicknamed ''The Blues'', is an Australian rules football club, located in the West Tamar suburb of Riverside, seven kilometres north of the Launceston CBD and currently play in the Tasmanian State League in Tasmania, Australia. Tasmanian State League
The Tasmanian State League (TSL), colloquially known as the "Tasmanian Football League (TFL)" (formerly known as the "Tasmanian Australian National Football League (TANFL)" and several other short-term names) is the highest ranked Australian rules football league in Tasmania, Australia. The league has a long and convoluted history which dates back to its founding on 12 June 1879 as the ''Tasmanian Football Association'' (giving it some claim to the title of the third oldest club football league in the world), but the name "TFL" (also the state's football governing body) was removed after it was liquidated with crushing debts in February 1999 and replaced by an independent commission ( Football Tasmania) and the competition was renamed the Tasmanian State Football League (1999) and the SWL (2000) until the number of clubs in financial difficulty made the league unsustainable and it collapsed in December 2000. Geoffrey Martin (footballer)
Geoffrey Bernard "Paddy" Martin (16 July 1927 – 12 June 2020) was an Australian rules footballer who played in Tasmania with Launceston, Sandy Bay, Ulverstone and Burnie. He was a half back flanker in Launceston's official 'Team of the Century' and in 2005 was inducted into Tasmanian Football Hall of Fame as a coaching legend. Martin also represented Tasmania once in first-class cricket. Martin was born in Launceston, Tasmania. He made an immediate impression on his debut for Launceston in 1946, and was selected that year to play with the Northern Tasmanian Football Association's representative team. The following season he crossed to Sandy Bay but returned to Launceston in 1948 where he stayed until 1954, despite getting an offer to go to Victorian Football League club Melbourne. Mitch Thorp
Mitchell Thorp (born 25 December 1988), better known as Mitch Thorp, is an Australian rules football player who played for the Hawthorn Football Club in the Australian Football League (AFL). Thorp was a key position player, and was taken by Hawthorn at pick six in front of Joel Selwood 2006 National Draft. Thorp debuted against Richmond in round 15 and after a large media buildup he played a promising game, including kicking a goal. An injury from that game meant he was unable to play the following week. Called in as a late replacement, Thorp played his second game against Sydney in round 2, 2009. Thorp had surgery to remove a bone fragment and have a pin inserted in his foot. Thorp would take at least three months to recover from a broken sesamoid bone in his left foot. Sam Lonergan
Sam Lonergan (born 26 March 1987) is a former professional Australian rules footballer who played for the Essendon Football Club and Richmond Football Club in the Australian Football League (AFL). He was drafted from the Launceston Football Club, via the Tassie Mariners U18s and the Tasmanian Devils, with selection 50 in the 2005 Draft. Lonergan captained the Allies (a composite team drawn from Tasmania, New South Wales, Queensland, the Australian Capital Territory and the Northern Territory), against Victoria during Grand Final week. In that game, he kicked five goals and was the leading possession winner on the ground. Paul Bryce
Paul Bryce (born 12 July 1968) is a former Australian rules footballer who played with North Melbourne, Melbourne and the Sydney Swans in the Victorian/Australian Football League (VFL/AFL). Bryce was a defender but was also used in the ruck and up forward. After making his debut as an 18-year-old in 1987, Bryce played regular games over the next three seasons. A former Wangaratta Rovers player, he was traded to Melbourne for John Ahern before the 1991 season and took part in his first final that year. He found himself at his third club in 1993 when Sydney selected him with the third pick of the pre-season draft and despite playing 17 games that season he was delisted at the end of the year. Michael Lockman
Michael Lockman (born 29 August 1963) is a former Australian rules footballer who played with Richmond, Collingwood and the Sydney Swans in the Victorian Football League (VFL). Originally from Victorian Amateur Football Association (VAFA) club East Malvern, Lockman had two separate stints at Richmond. After playing three games for Richmond early in 1986, he was traded to Collingwood where he finished the season. He made the move north to Sydney in 1988 and appeared in the opening 11 rounds of the season but didn't feature in the second half of the year. Peter Chisnall (born 22 January 1949) is a former Australian rules footballer for North Melbourne Football Club. Chisnall, from Corowa originally, played for the North Melbourne Football Club from 1968 to 1970, during the struggling years for the club.After a dispute with North Melb he left North and played 22 games for VFA club Sandringham 1971 - 72 However, he came back in 1974 and played an important role as a wingman. Verdun Howell
Verdun John Howell (born 16 June 1937) is a former Australian rules footballer who played senior football in Tasmania and in the VFL (now AFL). Howell played with City-South from 1953 to 1957. He was a member of that club's 1954 and 1956 NTFA premiership teams and in 1957 won City's best and fairest award. Howell made his VFL debut with the St Kilda Football Club in 1958 after being signed from Tasmania in 1953. He initially played on the half forward line, then later as a half back before playing with the Saints as a full back, where he won the 1959 Brownlow Medal, tying with Bob Skilton. Grant Allford
Grant Allford (born 5 December 1950) is a former Australian rules footballer who played for Richmond in the Victorian Football League The Victorian Football League (VFL) is an Australian rules football league in Australia serving as one of the second-tier regional semi-professional competitions which sit underneath the fully professional Australian Football League (AFL). Bob Withers
Robert Withers is a former Australian rules footballer who played in Tasmania and for Port Melbourne, noted for his selection in the 1961 All-Australian team. Withers was a regular member of the Port Melbourne side during the 1950s and represented the VFA in 1957, 1958, and 1959. He moved to Tasmania in 1960 and joined NTFA club North Launceston as captain-coach, steering the club to premierships in 1961 and 1963. Graeme Lee (Australian Footballer)
Graeme "Gypsy" Lee (12 July 1939 – 14 April 2021) was an Australian rules footballer who played with St Kilda in the VFL during the early 1960s. He also had a noted career in Tasmania and is a half-forward flanker in Launceston's official "Team of the Century". Early life and career Lee was born on the North West coast of Tasmania and started his career at Wynyard in 1956 as a wingman. Four years later he moved to the mainland when recruited by St Kilda.
