Latvian Cup
The Latvian Football Cup () is the main Single-elimination tournament, knockout cup competition in Latvian Football (soccer), football. Since 2021, its full name is Responsible Game Latvian Football Cup (''Atbildīgas spēles Latvijas kauss'') due to the sponsorship by sports betting company William Hill (bookmaker), William Hill. The tournament was launched in 1937, replacing the previous knockout tournament – the Riga Football Cup. The competition is a knockout (single elimination) tournament. From 1937 to 2008 and again since 2017, all of the games of the tournament are played within the year. During the Soviet occupation (Soviet occupation of Latvia in 1940, 1940–1941, Soviet occupation of the Baltic states (1944), 1944–1991) it served as a qualification tournament for the Soviet Cup. 2022 Latvian Football Cup
The 2022 Latvian Football Cup, known as the ‘’’Responsible Gaming Latvian Cup’’’ for sponsorship reasons, was a single elimination association football tournament which began on 6 May 2022. Preliminary round Six preliminary round matches were played between 6 May and 8 May 2022. First round Fourteen first round matches were played on 21-22 May 2022. Second round Twelve second round matches were played on 11–12 June 2022. Play-off round Six Play-off Round matches were played on 22-26 June 2022. FK ASK
FK ASK Riga was a Latvian football club of the Latvian army, founded in 1923. In the 1920s and 1930s it was one of the leading clubs in Latvia. In 1940s it was disbanded, a new football club of the Soviet army was created in Riga under the name FK AVN, later AVN was renamed to ASK. It became defunct in 1970. History Original FK ASK ASK was founded as a football club with the Latvian army in 1923. In its first year the club earned a promotion to the top Riga division by beating Union Riga. The stadium of ASK (built in 1923) was one of the main football arenas in Riga, Latvia national football team played many matches there. In 1924 ASK finished second in Riga, but both in 1925 and 1926 it finished last and thus in 1927 it didn't earn a place in the newly founded Virsliga (first league in Latvia to have clubs from both Riga and other cities). Spartaks Rīga
Spartaks Rīga is a defunct Soviet Latvian football club. It was founded in 1945 and its manager was the popular Juris Rēdlihs (Raiskums). Team history The team played in the Soviet Latvian league from 1946 to 1954. The first seasons were difficult - 6th place (from 8 teams), 7th (from 7), only in 1948 it managed finishing in the upper part of the league table - 5th from 12 teams. In 1949 - 4th, but 1950 was a massive drawback - only 13th place among 17 teams. Spartaks missed the 1951 season to return as 3rd in 1952. Under the name Spartaks-Elektro the club had its best result in the league - they were runners-up in 1953. However the 1954 season proved to be the last for Spartaks Rīga - after a disappointing 9th place out of 10 teams the club was disbanded. FK Daugava Rīga was a Latvian football club, based at the Daugava Stadium in Riga. They played in the Latvian Higher League. The last manager of the team was Armands Zeiberliņš. From the club's foundation in 2003 till 2009 the club was known as ''FK Jūrmala''. The Soviet re-occupation of Latvia in 1944 refers to the military occupation of Latvia by the Soviet Union in 1944. During World War II Latvia was first occupied by the Soviet Union in June 1940, then was occupied by Nazi Germany in 1941–1944, and after which it was re-occupied by the Soviet Union. Battle of the Baltic Army Group Centre was in tatters, and the northern edge of the Soviet assault threatened to trap Army Group North in a pocket in the Courland region. Panzers of Hyazinth Graf Strachwitz von Gross-Zauche und Camminetz had been sent back to the capital of Ostland, Riga and in ferocious defensive battles had halted the Soviet advance in late April 1944. A replay (also called a rematch) is the repetition of a match in many sports. Association football In association football, replays were often used to decide the winner in a knock-out tournament when the previous match ended in a draw, especially in finals. In 1970, FIFA (the worldwide governing body of the sport) and IFAB (the international rules committee for the sport) allowed penalty shoot-outs to be held if a match ended in a draw after extra time. The penalty shootout made its appearance immediately thereafter. The first instance of a shootout replacing a replay (rather than lots) was the final of the 1976 European championship. The shootout's first use at the World Cup took place in the 1982 semi-finals.
