Latvia Women's National Basketball Team
The Latvia women's national basketball team is the national women's basketball team representing Latvia. It is administrated by the Latvian Basketball Association. It has participated in EuroBasket Women three times and once in the Olympic Games. History Golden age of Latvia women's national basketball team was from 2007 to 2009, when head coach was Ainars Zvirgzdiņš. In EuroBasket 2007 Latvia first time in history reached semi-final. In third place game they lost to Belarus. This result allowed to get in 2008 Olympic Qualifying Tournament, which had overpowered in next summer in Madrid, and Latvia took part of 2008 Summer Olympics. EuroBasket 2009 was held in Latvia. In this tournament Latvia reached quarterfinal, where they lost to Russia in overtime with 64–69. They also lost to Italy in classification rounds. Latvia got seventh place in this tournament. Latvia Basketball Association
The Latvian Basketball Association ( Latvian: ''Latvijas Basketbola Savienība''), also known as LBS, is the national governing body of basketball in Latvia. It was founded in 1923 and was one of the FIBA Europe co-founders, but due to the Soviet and Nazi occupations, the federation disappeared from FIBA from 1940 to 1991. Its headquarters are located in Riga. Tournaments organized Latvian Basketball Association is recognized as one of the best international tournament organizers for FIBA. Latvia has organized EuroBasket 1937, EuroBasket Women 2009, EuroBasket 2015, EuroBasket Women 2019 and will organize EuroBasket 2025. Also, Latvia has been a host for 2011 FIBA Under-19 World Championship, 2021 FIBA Under-19 Basketball World Cup and a number of other youth competitions in all age groups. EuroBasket Women 2011
The 2011 European Women Basketball Championship, commonly called EuroBasket Women 2011, was the 33rd regional championship held by FIBA Europe. The competition was held in Poland from 2011. This was the 4th time that the EuroBasket Women was hosted by Poland. Russia won its third title after defeating Turkey in the final. It was Russia's 6th final after the dissolution of the Soviet Union, while Turkey played final for the 1st time. The 2019 EuroBasket Women, European Women Basketball Championship, commonly called EuroBasket Women 2019, was the 37th edition of the continental tournament in women's basketball, sanctioned by the FIBA Europe. The 2005 European Women Basketball Championship, commonly called Eurobasket 2005 Women, was held in Turkey between 2 September and 11 September 2005. Czech Republic won the gold medal and Russia the silver medal while Spain won the bronze. Maria Stepanova from Russia was named the tournament MVP. EuroBasket Women 2001 occurred in France from September 14 to September 23, 2001. The winners were the home team France, followed by Russia and Spain. Venues The tournament was held in three cities in France: Orléans, Le Mans and Gravelines. The arenas, in which the tournament was held, were: in Orléans, Palais des Sports; in Le Mans, Antarès; and in Gravelines, Gravelines Sportica. 2018 FIBA Women's Basketball World Cup
The 2018 FIBA Women's Basketball World Cup, the 18th edition of FIBA's premier international tournament for women's national basketball teams, was held in Tenerife, Canary Islands, Spain from 22 to 30 September 2018. This was the first edition to use the name of ''FIBA Women's Basketball World Cup''. After the last edition in 2014, FIBA changed the name of the competition from the ''FIBA World Championship for Women'', in order to align its name with that of the corresponding men's competition. The United States were the two-time defending champions. This tournament saw the World Cup debut of Belgium, Latvia and Puerto Rico. The 2017 European Women Basketball Championship, commonly called EuroBasket Women 2017, was the 36th edition of the continental tournament in women's basketball, sanctioned by the FIBA Europe. The tournament was awarded to Czech Republic after winning the bid to Serbia. The tournament also serves as a qualification for the 2018 FIBA Women's Basketball World Cup in Spain, with the top five nations qualifying. The 2015 EuroBasket Women, European Women Basketball Championship, commonly called EuroBasket Women 2015, was the 35th edition of the continental tournament in women's basketball, sanctioned by the FIBA Europe.
