''Latin Quarter'' (German title: ''Quartier Latin'') is a 1929 German silent drama film directed by Augusto Genina and starring Gina Manès, Carmen Boni and Helga Thomas. It was based on a novel by Maurice Dekobra.Goble p.121 It was shot at the Staaken Studios and on location in Paris. The film's art direction was by Franz Schroedter. It premiered at the Ufa-Palast am Zoo in Berlin. Augusto Genina
Augusto Genina (28 January 1892 – 18 September 1957) was an Italian film pioneer. He was a movie producer and director. Biography Born in Rome, Genina was a drama critic and wrote comedies for the ''Il Mondo'' Magazine, under advise of Aldo de Benedetti switches to movies for the "Film d'Arte Italiana", that produces his first film "La moglie di sua eccellenza". In 1929 Genina moved to France to direct Louise Brooks in sonorized film ''Miss Europe''. He studied sound techniques and worked in France and Germany in same but alternate languages film versions which were filmed simultaneously, before his return to Italy. He won Venice Film Festival Mussolini's cup for Best Italian Film twice, in 1936 by ''Lo squadrone bianco'' and in 1940 by ''The Siege of the Alcazar'', both Fascist propaganda films. Maurice Braddell
Maurice Lee Braddell (23 November 1900 – 28 July 1990) was an English actor, author and art restorer. Maurice Braddell was born in Folkestone, Kent, England, and lived in New York City for much of his life. He was the son of Sir Thomas Braddell and Lady Violet Nassau (Kirby) Braddell. The Braddell family had a long association with the Straits Settlements (Singapore) where they served as lawyers and judges. Maurice Braddell married Jean Shannon (Macleod) Harman of Chesham, Bucks who had previously taken the name Braddell. As well as acting in both silent films and talkies, Braddell wrote the 1935 farce of the same name on which the 1936 film, ''It's You I Want'' is based. Over 40 years later, he was retired from films and working as an art restorer, living in New York's East Village, when he was cast in Andy Warhol's 1968 film, ''Flesh Flesh is any aggregation of soft tissues of an organism.
