Fernando Pérez (director)
Fernando Pérez Valdés (born 1944) is a prominent Cuban film director. Career Pérez graduated from the University of Havana with a degree in Language and Spanish Literature, and began working in the Cuban film industry in 1971 as an assistant director, before directing his first documentary in 1975. His feature debut was the drama '' Clandestinos'' (1987) but it was not until ''Madagascar'' (1994) that he garnered significant international recognition. Pérez later directed '' La Vida es Silbar'' (1998) and '' Suite Habana'' (2003). ''Suite Habana'' is considered by some critics to be the best Cuban film in decades. ''Variety'' hailed it as "A lyrical, meticulously-crafted and unexpectedly melancholy homage to the battered but resilient inhabitants of a battered but resilient city." ''Last Stop 174'' ( pt, Última Parada 174) is a 2008 Brazilian film directed by Bruno Barreto, written by Braulio Mantovani, produced by Moonshot Pictures and starring Michel Gomes and Marcello Melo, Jr.. The film relates a fictionalized account of the life of Sandro Rosa do Nascimento, a street kid in Rio de Janeiro that survived the Candelária massacre and, in 2000, hijacked a bus. On September 16, 2008, the film was chosen by the Ministry of Culture as the representative of Brazil in the Oscar competition for best foreign film at the ceremony in 2009. Icíar Bollaín Pérez-Mínguez (born 12 June 1967) is a Spanish filmmaker and actress. Early life and education Icíar Bollaín Pérez-Mínguez was born in Madrid on 12 June 1967. She was one of twin girls to a father who was an aeronautical engineer and a mother who was a music teacher. She grew up in a liberal household in which each member was allowed to follow their own inclination. Icíar and her twin sister Marina showed an early interest in the arts; Icíar towards filmmaking while her sister studied to become an operatic singer. Sebastián Borensztein (born 22 April 1963) is an Argentine screenwriter and film director, best known for the films '' Chinese Take-Away'' (2011), ''Heroic Losers'' (2019) and the horror television miniseries ''El garante'' (1997).
