Latifur Rahman (businessman)
Latifur Rahman (28 August 1945 – 1 July 2020) was a Bangladeshi business magnate and media mogul. He served as the founding chairman and CEO of Transcom Group which deals with beverages, electrical and electronics products, pharmaceuticals, fast food, snacks and breakfast cereals, print media, FM radio and tea plantations mostly as the comprador of international brands like Pizza Hut, KFC, Pepsi and Philips. He was the founding director of Mediaworld and Chairman of Mediastar, which owned The Daily Star and Prothom Alo newspapers respectively. Both are the nation's leading English and Bangla newspapers. Rahman received the ''Oslo Business for Peace Award 2012'' in 2012 for his recognition of business ethics and social responsibility. Jalpaiguri
Jalpaiguri is a city in the Indian state of West Bengal. It is the headquarters of the Jalpaiguri district as well as of the Jalpaiguri division of West Bengal, covering the jurisdiction of the five districts of North Bengal. 2016 Gulshan Attack
On the night of 1 July 2016, at 21:20 local time, five militants took hostages and opened fire on the Holey Artisan Bakery in Gulshan Thana. The assailants entered the bakery with crude bombs, machetes, pistols, and took several dozen hostages (foreigners and locals). In the immediate response, while Dhaka Metropolitan Police tried to regain control of the bakery, two police officers were shot dead by the assailants. 29 people were killed, including 20 hostages (17 foreigners and 3 locals), two police officers, five gunmen, and two bakery staff. As the police were unsuccessful in breaching the bakery and securing the hostages, they set up a perimeter along with the Rapid Action Battalion and Border Guards Bangladesh. Faraaz Ayaaz Hossain was a 20-year-old Bangladeshi murder victim in the July 2016 Dhaka attack. He was the grandson of Latifur Rahman, chairman of Transcom Group and Shahnaz Rahman. Faraaz was the younger child of Simeen and Muhammad Waquer. He was studying undergraduate at the Goizueta Business School in Atlanta, Georgia, USA and came to Dhaka in mid May to spend his summer holidays. Education Faraaz Hossain started his school at the age of three, at Sir John Wilson, Dhaka and studied there until class 2. Then he went on to join the American International School of Dhaka and graduated in 2014. Shazneen Tasnim Rahman murder was the rape and murder of Shazneen Tasnim Rahman in Dhaka, Bangladesh which became a "sensational" case. History Shazneen Tasnim Rahman was the daughter of Latifur Rahman, the founder and chairman of Transcom Group. She was 15 in 1998 and a student of Scholastica in Dhaka.
