Latgale Party
The Latgale Party ( lv, Latgales partija, LP) is a regionalist political party in Latvia representing the Latgalian minority of Latvia. It is a part of the New Unity coalition and since 2014, it has been led by Jānis Lāčplēsis and Aldis Adamovičs. History The party was founded on 1 June 2012 in Preiļi and registered on 28 August the same year. The stated intention of the party was to represent the interest of Latgalian citizens on a state level. At the 2013 municipal elections, the party received the most seats in the municipalities of Ludza, Preiļi, and Viļaka as well as being tied for most seats with Harmony Centre in Daugavpils and with the Union of Greens and Farmers in Riebiņi Municipality. Preiļi Municipality
Preiļi Municipality ( lv, Preiļu novads) is a municipality in Latgale, Latvia. The municipality was formed in 2000 by merging Aizkalne Parish, Preiļi Parish and Preiļi town. In 2009 it absorbed Pelēči Parish and Sauna Parish, too the administrative centre being Preiļi. The population in 2020 was 9,054. On 1 July 2021, Preiļi Municipality was enlarged when Riebiņi Municipality, Vārkava Municipality and Aglona Parish were merged into it. Arturs Krišjānis Kariņš (born 13 December 1964) is an American-Latvian politician who has served as the Prime Minister of Latvia since 2019. A linguist and businessperson by profession, he previously served as Latvia's Minister of Economics and a Member of the European Parliament. Born in Wilmington, Delaware, United States, to parents who had left Latvia during the Soviet occupation, he was active in the American Latvian community throughout his youth. After graduating with a bachelor's degree '' summa cum laude'' and PhD in linguistics from the University of Pennsylvania, Kariņš moved to Latvia in 1997 and founded a frozen food business. The Progressives ( lv, Progresīvie, ) is a social-democratic and progressive political party in Latvia. The party was founded on 25 February 2017. 2018 Latvian Parliamentary Election
Parliamentary elections were held in Latvia on 6 October 2018. Following the elections, a coalition government was formed by Who owns the state?, the New Conservative Party, Development/For!, the National Alliance and New Unity. Despite being from the smallest elected party, Arturs Krišjānis Kariņš of New Unity was chosen as Prime Minister. Background The 2014 elections saw Social Democratic Party "Harmony" emerge as the largest party. Although the largest party, Harmony has not participated in the government. The Latvian Farmers' Union ( lv, Latvijas Zemnieku savienība, LZS) is an agrarian political party in Latvia. The Union of Greens and Farmers ( lv, Zaļo un Zemnieku savienība, ZZS) is an agrarian political alliance in Latvia.
