Late Starter
''Late Starter'' is the fourth solo album by Mike Harrison, best known as a principal lead vocalist of Spooky Tooth. Released in 2006, it is Harrison's first solo album in over thirty years, following the release of '' Rainbow Rider'' in 1975. History and Critical Reception The album came about following Harrison's engagement with the Hamburg Blues Band, which commenced in 1999. Michael Maslen, who owned Halo Records and was a Spooky Tooth fan, heard Harrison with the Hamburg Blues Band and persuaded Harrison to record another solo album. The album is primarily a collection of soul and blues covers, including "Sinner's Prayer", a song by Lowell Fulson and Lloyd Glenn that had most recently been covered two years earlier, on Ray Charles' final studio album, ''Genius Loves Company''. Mike Harrison (30 September 1942 in Carlisle, Cumberland, England – 25 March 2018, Carlisle) was an English musician, most notable as a principal lead singer of Spooky Tooth and as a solo artist. He was also the lead singer in The V.I.P.'s, Art and the Hamburg Blues Band, among others. History Mike Harrison began his musical career with the Ramrods a band originating from Carlisle that was then Cumberland, the northern part of the now English county of Cumbria. This was to develop the foundations of a career that led to him being notable as the lead singer of Spooky Tooth, a band that he initially co-founded, with Mike Kellie, Luther Grosvenor and Greg Ridley and which Gary Wright then joined. Harrison, Grosvenor, Ridley and Kellie had previously been in a Carlisle-based band called The V.I.P.'s, which also included Keith Emerson. Jim Varsos (1952 – October 5, 2021), known by the stage name Hobo Jim, was an Alaskan folk singer-songwriter. Roosevelt Sykes (January 31, 1906July 17, 1983) was an American blues musician, also known as "the Honeydripper". Career Sykes was born the son of a musician in Elmar, Arkansas.
