Latchford Barracks
Latchford Barracks is an Australian Army base in the suburb of Bonegilla, Victoria, Bonegilla, located about to the east of Wodonga, Victoria. It is named after Colonel E.W. Latchford, MBE, MC (1889–1962). The barracks is host to the Army Logistic Training Centre (Australia), Army Logistic Training Centre. The Bonegilla Migrant Reception and Training Centre was located at the barracks, prior to the barracks being reused for military purposes. Torture video In November 2021, the Australian Broadcasting Commission, ABC reported an incident of "bastardisation" of a RAAF recruit in 2020. Video of the incident showed the recruit being tied up and tortured by another serviceman. Police reportedly found that "a criminal offence could not be determined at the time". Bonegilla, Victoria
Bonegilla is a bounded rural locality of the City of Wodonga local government area in north-east Victoria, Australia, east of Wodonga, and around north-east of Melbourne. At the , Bonegilla and the surrounding area had a population of 610. History Bonegilla Post Office opened on 20 August 1878 and closed in 1951. Bonegilla Military Post Office was open from 1940 to 1947 and from 1983 to 1998, after which it relocated to nearby Bandiana. Much of the development of the town was due to the Cudgewa railway line which opened in 1889 and closed in 1981. The line was used both in the development of, and transporting materials for, the Snowy Mountains Scheme and the main method of transporting thousands of migrants to the Bonegilla Migrant Reception Centre from Station Pier in Port Melbourne. Wodonga ( Waywurru: ''Wordonga'') is a city on the Victorian side of the border with New South Wales, north-east of Melbourne, Australia. It is located wholly within the boundaries of the City of Wodonga LGA. Its population is approximately 35,100 and is separated from its twin city in New South Wales, Albury, by the Murray River. The Army Logistic Training Centre (ALTC) is an Australian Army training establishment that is part of Forces Command (Australia), Forces Command. Established on 1 December 1995, through the amalgamation of nine separate logistic, health and personnel services schools and the Army College of TAFE, ALTC is headquartered at Bandiana, Victoria, Australia, Victoria, and was established in response to the need to provide more effective logistic training, which had been identified as a problem as early as 1981. ALTC's motto is "Excel with Honour". Bonegilla Migrant Reception And Training Centre
The Bonegilla Migrant Reception and Training Centre was a camp set up for receiving and training migrants to Australia during the post World War II immigration boom. The camp was set on near Wodonga at the locality of Bonegilla in north east Victoria, between the Hume Dam and the city of Wodonga. The site was a former World War II Australian Army base, and is adjacent to the current Latchford Barracks. Before being requisitioned by the army, the site was originally a section of large pastoral land. The camp opened in 1947 and operated until 1971, over which period it received over 300,000 migrants. It is estimated that over 1.5 million Australians are descended from migrants who spent time at Bonegilla. Eric Bana's parents were both processed through Bonegilla. The grandfather of actor and screenwriter Jason Agius stayed at the camp in 1952. The Australian Broadcasting Corporation (ABC) is the national broadcaster of Australia.
