''Last Love'' (Italian: ''Ultimo amore'') is a 1947 Italian melodrama film directed by Luigi Chiarini and starring Clara Calamai, Andrea Checchi and Carlo Ninchi.Moliterno p.80 It set during the Second World War with Italy close to defeat and increasingly occupied by German troops. Three Italian soldiers are enjoying some leave when they become involved with an enigmatic female singer!. Luigi Chiarini
Luigi Chiarini (20 June 1900 – 12 November 1975) was an Italian film theorist, essayist, screenwriter and film director. Life and career Born in Rome, Chiarini wrote extensively about film theory and in 1935 he founded the drama school Centro Sperimentale di Cinematografia in Rome. He later founded and directed the Centro's official journal ''Bianco e Nero'' and the magazine ''Rivista del cinema italiano''.Moliterno, Gino. ''The A to Z of Italian Cinema''. Scarecrow Press, 2009. pp. 79-80. In 1961 he was appointed the first chair of film studies in Italy, at the University of Pisa. Between 1963 and 1968 Chiarini served as artistic director of the Venice International Film Festival. He was also on the jury of the 1937 Venice Film Festival and the 1961 Cannes Film Festival. Ughetto Bertucci (18 October 1907 – 25 June 1966) was an Italian film and stage actor. He appeared in more than 40 films between 1945 and 1960. Life and career He was born and died in Rome, Italy. A fruit vendor in a Roman market square, he was noticed by the director Mario Mattoli who cast him as a fruit vendor in his comedy-drama ''Life Begins Anew''.
