Last Human
''Last Human'' is the title of a 1995 science fiction comedy novel written by Doug Naylor. It is part of the ''Red Dwarf'' series of novels, based on the popular television show created by Naylor and his partner Rob Grant. Like the other novels, it does not take place within the television series continuity, but instead adapts situations presented on the series to occur within an alternative universe. The novel focuses on Dave Lister and his crewmates as they attempt to return to their home universe through the myriad of parallel universes that exist, becoming distracted by the search for a lost viral strain promising immortality. Doug Naylor
Douglas Rodger Naylor (born 31 December 1955) is an English comedy writer, science fiction writer, director and television producer. Life and career Naylor was born in Manchester, Lancashire, England, and studied at Chetham's School of Music and the University of Liverpool. In the mid-1980s Naylor created and wrote two comedy sketch shows for BBC Radio 4 entitled ''Cliché'' and '' Son of Cliché'', as well as two sitcoms,''Wrinkles'' and ''Wally Who?'' for the same station. These shows were scripted by Naylor along with another writer, Rob Grant. "Quarantine" is the fourth episode of science fiction sitcom ''Red Dwarf'' Series V and the twenty eighth in the series run. ''Chitty Chitty Bang Bang'' is a 1968 musical-fantasy film directed by Ken Hughes with a screenplay co-written by Roald Dahl and Hughes, loosely based on Ian Fleming's novel '' Chitty-Chitty-Bang-Bang: The Magical Car'' (1964). Arnold Rimmer
Arnold Judas Rimmer is a fictional character in the science fiction sitcom ''Red Dwarf'', played by Chris Barrie. Rimmer is characterised as a second-class technician (and de facto leader) of the mining ship Red Dwarf. Cat is a fictional character in the British science fiction sitcom ''Red Dwarf''. He is played by Danny John-Jules. He is a descendant of Dave Lister's pregnant pet house cat Frankenstein, whose descendants evolved into a humanoid form over three million years while Lister was in stasis (suspended animation). A stasis or stasis field, in science fiction, is a confined area of space in which time has been stopped or the contents have been rendered motionless. Overview A stasis field is imagined to be a region in which a stasis process is in effect. Stasis fields in fictional settings often have several common characteristics. These include infinite or nearly infinite rigidity, making them "unbreakable objects" and a perfect or nearly-perfect reflective surface. Most science fiction plots rely on a physical device to establish this region. When the device is deactivated, the stasis field collapses, and the stasis effect ends. Kryten
Kryten is a fictional character in the British science fiction situation comedy ''Red Dwarf''. The name ''Kryten'' is a reference to the head butler in the J.M. Barrie play ''The Admirable Crichton''. Originally referred to as a Series III mechanoid, he is later described as a 4000 Series, or Series 4000. In their original plan for the series, Rob Grant and Doug Naylor had specified that there would be no aliens and no robots. Following the success of the first appearance by the Kryten character, Naylor convinced Grant to bring him back. In the character's first appearance, originally only intended as a one-off, Kryten was played by actor David Ross (actor), David Ross but the popularity of the character meant that Kryten was introduced as a regular in Series III. "Ouroboros" is the third episode of science fiction sitcom ''Red Dwarf'' Series VII and the 39th in the series run. It was first broadcast on the British television channel BBC2 on 31 January 1997. "Gunmen of the Apocalypse" is the third episode of series VI of the science fiction sitcom '' Red Dwarf''. It was first broadcast on 21 October 1993, on BBC Two, and went on to win an International Emmy Award. The episode was written by Rob Grant and Doug Naylor, and directed by Andy de Emmony.
