The Dead Sea ( he, יַם הַמֶּלַח, ''Yam hamMelaḥ''; ar, اَلْبَحْرُ الْمَيْتُ, ''Āl-Baḥrū l-Maytū''), also known by other names, is a salt lake bordered by Jordan to the east and Israel and the West Bank to the west. It lies in the Jordan Rift Valley, and its main tributary is the Jordan River. As of 2019, the lake's surface is below sea level, making its shores the lowest land-based elevation on Earth. It is deep, the deepest hypersaline lake in the world. With a salinity of 342 g/kg, or 34.2% (in 2011), it is one of the world's saltiest bodies of water – 9.6 times as salty as the ocean – and has a density of 1.24 kg/litre, which makes swimming similar to floating. Callirrhoe (Jordan)
Callirrhoe or Callirrhoë ( ar, عين الزارة, '''Ein ez-Zara''; grc-gre, Θερμὰ Καλλιρόης, ''Thermà Kallirhoēs'') is an archaeological site in Jordan in which remains of a nymphaeum can be traced, though it is considered difficult to be interpreted. Callirrhoe is known in ancient literature for its thermal springs, because it was visited by King Herod the Great, Herod according to Josephus shortly before his death, as a final attempt to be cured or relief his pains. It remains unknown if the ''greatest builder in Jewish history'' is related to any of the observable remains in the area. Callirrhoe is referred by Pliny the Elder (''Natural History'', 70-72), Ptolemaeus (''Geography'' 15,6) and Gaius Julius Solinus, Solinus (''De mirabilibus mundi'' 35,4) as well as in a Midrash.
