Lascăr Vorel
Lascăr Vorel (19 August 1879 – 8 February 1918) was a Romanian Post-Impressionist painter whose style was linked to Expressionism. He was the scion of a pharmacist clan in Piatra Neamț, but abandoned the family trade to take up drawing, and became a student at Munich's Academy of Fine Arts. Praised as an intellectual as well as a painter, he moved away from Art Nouveau, studying Cubism and Expressionism, and exchanging ideas with a young Marcel Duchamp. Vorel also worked as a cartoonist for ''Der Komet'' magazine, befriending Albert Bloch, Hanns Bolz and Erich Mühsam, and frequenting Café Stefanie. While active in immediate proximity to the early trends in German Expressionism, including ''Der Blaue Reiter'', he never joined any artistic society. His avant-garde paintings, which often incorporated social commentary, alternated with more subdued and conventional landscapes and peasant portraits of Western Moldavia. Mihail Lascăr
Mihail Lascăr (; November 8, 1889 – July 24, 1959) was a Romanian general during World War II and Romania's Minister of Defense from 1946 to 1947. He was born in Târgu Jiu, Gorj County, Kingdom of Romania, and graduated from the Infantry Officer School in 1910 with the rank of 2nd lieutenant. Lascăr fought in the Second Balkan War, being promoted to lieutenant in 1913. After Romania entered World War I in August 1916, he fought in the Romanian Campaign and was promoted to captain in November 1916. He distinguished himself in the battles of the 1917 Campaign and was promoted to major in September 1917. He then attended the Higher War School from 1919 to 1921 and advanced in rank to lieutenant colonel (1927), colonel (1934), and brigadier general (1939). On January 10, 1941, he was appointed commanding officer of the 1st Mountain Brigade, an elite military unit of the Third Army. Lascăr Catargiu
Lascăr Catargiu ( or Lascăr Catargi; 1 November 1823 – ) was a Romanian conservative statesman born in Moldavia. He belonged to an ancient Wallachian family, one of whose members had been banished in the 17th century by Prince Matei Basarab, and had settled in Moldavia. Biography Born in Iași, Lascăr Catargiu rose to the office of prefect of police in the city under the rule of the Moldavian Prince Grigore Ghica (1849–1856). In 1857 he became a member of the ''ad hoc Divan'' of Moldavia, a commission elected in accordance with the Treaty of Paris (1856) to vote on the proposed union of Moldavia and Wallachia (the Danubian Principalities). His strongly conservative views, especially on land reform, induced the Conservatives to support him as a candidate for the Romanian throne in 1859. Bogdan Lascăr
Bogdan Lascăr (born July 30, 1974) is a Romanian sculptor, graphic designer, and film maker. He is the founder of the concept of "Neurophysiologic shapings". Life and career Lascăr was born in 1974 in Bacău. He graduated from the Academy of Fine Arts in Bucharest in 1998. His main focus during his studies was sculpture. He was Teaching Assistant in the Department of Sculpture at the same academy between 2004 and 2006. Starting with 2000, he works as visual counselor in the field of cosmetic surgery. Bogdan Lascar lives and works in Bucharest and Dubai (UAE). In 2005 in Athens, Greece, he was awarded the UNESCO Gold Medal.
