Las Vegas Strikers were an American soccer team, founded in 2003. The team were a member of the National Premier Soccer League (NPSL), the fourth tier of the American Soccer Pyramid, and play in the Southwest Conference. Frederic Apcar (born Frédéric Stefan Apcar; September 16, 1914 – August 2, 2008) was a Russian-born French acrobatic dancer and producer/impresario best known for his pioneering "Vive Les Girls" and long-running "Casino de Paris" shows at the Dunes. These Parisian-inspired productions offered a colorful variety of acts featuring singers, dancers, magicians, comedians, acrobats, animal trainers and more. Frank D'Amelio
Frank D'Amelio is a former U.S. soccer defender who played one season in the North American Soccer League, one in the American Soccer League and the 1980–1981 indoor NASL season. He later coached for over two decades on the collegiate, high school and youth club levels. Player D'Amelio was born in Italy, but moved to the United States at some point during his early youth. He grew up on Long Island, New York and attended Baldwin High School. He began college at Adelphi University in 1976. He took a year off to play for the U.S. U-21 national team in 1977 then returned to college at the University of Evansville. He spent the 1978 and 1979 seasons with the Purple Aces. He was inducted into the Evansville Athletic Hall of Fame in 1992. In 1980, the Philadelphia Fury selected D'Amelio in the first round of the North American Soccer League's college draft. The National Premier Soccer League (NPSL) is an American men's association football, soccer league. The NPSL is a semi-professional league, comprising some teams that have paid players and some that are entirely amateur. The league is officially affiliated to the United States Adult Soccer Association (USASA) and has automatic qualification for the U.S. Open Cup. It is the successor of the Men's Premier Soccer League, a regional league originally based in the Western United States, which has now expanded nationwide to encompass teams from 29 states. The United States soccer league system is a series of professional and amateur soccer leagues based, in whole or in part, in the United States. Sometimes called the American soccer pyramid, teams and leagues are not linked by the system of promotion and relegation typical in soccer elsewhere. The Bettye Wilson Soccer Complex is a 10-field soccer complex located on in Las Vegas, Nevada. The facility is located adjacent to Cimarron-Memorial High School. The complex is home to the Las Vegas Mayors Cup International Tournaments.
