The town was founded in 1889 on lands belonging to the Ferrocarril Central Argentino railway company. The communal jurisdiction was established on 6 October 1902. The commune officially became a city on 27 June 1986. The economy of Las Parejas is based on agriculture and (on a smaller scale) cattle farming. Industries have experienced a surge, especially the manufacturing of agricultural machinery, since the turn of the 21st century. Las Parejas and Armstrong are home to 20% of the productive capacity of this industry, which supplies a growing local demand and is beginning to export. Antonio Bonfatti
Antonio Bonfatti (born December 1, 1950) is an Argentine physician and politician from the Socialist Party, who was Governor of Santa Fe. From 2016 to 2021, he was president of the Socialist Party. Life and times Bonfatti was born in Rosario in 1950. He enrolled at the National University of Rosario and was accepted into the School of Medicine. There, he developed an interest in politics, and in 1972, co-founded the Popular Socialist Party with activists Guillermo Estévez Boero and Hermes Binner. He earned a Medical Degree in 1974, and for the next two years, worked with Binner in a slum clinic outside Rosario. The March 1976 coup prompted him to relocate to Las Parejas, a small town west of Rosario. He would remain in Las Parejas, working as a physician in a provincial SAMCo clinic and for the Steelworkers' Union in the field of occupational medicine. Jorge Alberto Francisco Valdano Castellanos (born 4 October 1955) is an Argentine former football player, coach, and the former general manager of Real Madrid. Héctor Cavallero (2 October 1939 – 2 October 2020), nicknamed ''El Tigre'' ("The Tiger"), was an Argentine politician, who was mayor of Rosario, Santa Fe, and a member of the Argentine Chamber of Deputies for the Province of Santa Fe.
