The Royal Norwegian Ministry of Trade and Industry (Norwegian: Nærings- og handelsdepartementet) was a Norwegian ministry responsible for business, trade and industry. On 1 January 2014 it was merged into Ministry of Trade, Industry and Fisheries. Johan Ludwig Mowinckel
Johan Ludwig Mowinckel (22 October 1870 – 30 September 1943) was a Norwegian statesman, shipping magnate and philanthropist. He served as the 16th prime minister of Norway during three separate terms. Biography Johan Ludwig Mowinckel was born in Bergen, Norway. His parents were Johan Anton Wilhelm Mohr Mowinckel (1843–1918) and Edvardine Magdalene Margrethe Müller (1851–71). His father was a merchant and a member of one of Bergen's old merchant families. He was educated at University of Oslo, graduating in 1889. After graduation, he traveled abroad to Bremen and London to better learn the business of shipping. In 1893 he returned to Bergen and joined the offices of Christian Michelsen. In 1912, he became the founder and principal in the joint-stock shipping company, A/S J. Ludwig Mowinckels Rederi. Johan Henrik Rye Holmboe (28 November 1863 – 29 May 1933) was a Norwegian businessperson and politician for the Free-minded Liberal Party. He was a city council member in Tromsø for 42 years, a three-term member of Parliament, Minister of Provisioning from 1920 to 1921, and Minister of Trade from 1923 to 1924. Charles Robertson (Norwegian Politician)
Charles Robertson (1875–1958) was the Norwegian Minister of Trade 1926–1928 and part of Lykke's Cabinet. He was the son of merchant Nicolai George Robertson and his wife Anna Albrethson. His father's family came from Scotland to Hammerfest with his grandfather Charles Robertson the Elder in 1827. The family business G. Robertson traded in salted fish, stockfish, shark fishing and seal hunting. They had a number of branches and fishing villages along the Finnmark coast. On 24 May 1899 he married his cousin Gudrun Brandt-Rantzau, daughter of district physician Johannes Brandt-Rantzau and Nicoline Cecilie Mathea Robertson. His sister Anna Robertson married Attorney General and later Minister of State Andreas Urbye. His niece Gudrun Martius, married the diplomat Johan Georg Alexius Ræder. Ivar Kirkeby-Garstad
Ivar Larsen Kirkeby-Garstad (5 August 1877 – 19 June 1951) was a Norwegian politician for the Centre Party (Norway), Agrarian Party. He was elected to the Parliament of Norway from Nord-Trøndelag in 1921, and was re-elected on five consecutive occasions. He last served as a deputy representative during the term 1945–1949. He was also acting Minister of Agriculture (Norway), Minister of Agriculture from February to March 1932 in Kolstad's Cabinet, and Ministry of Trade and Industry (Norway)#Ministers of Trade (1903-1945), Minister of Trade, Shipping, Industry, Craft and Fisheries from March 1932 to March 1933 in Hundseid's Cabinet. Alfred Madsen
Alfred Martin Madsen (10 April 1888 – 8 May 1962) was a Norwegian engineer, newspaper editor, trade unionist and politician for the Norwegian Labour Party. He began as deputy chairman of their youth wing, while also working as an engineer. In the 1910s he rose in the hierarchy of the party press, and eventually in the Labour Party and the Confederation of Trade Unions as well. He was an important party and trade union strategist in the 1920s. He served six terms in the Norwegian Parliament, and was the parliamentary leader of his party for many years. He was twice a member of the national cabinet, as Minister of Social Affairs in 1928 and Minister of Trade from 1935 to 1939.
