Larry Harris (game Designer)
Larry Harris Jr. is a game designer. Family Harris is the son of Lawrence (Larry) Harris Sr., who was a U.S. infantryman in the Pacific Theater, participating in assaults in the Solomon Islands, New Guinea and the Philippines. He is married to Katherine Harris, has four children, and three step-children. Career Larry Harris is most famous for creating the board game ''Axis & Allies'', as well as all of its sequels. During 1984, his first year at Milton Bradley, 13 games of his design were featured in the company's catalog. This included the three initial titles in the Gamemaster series: '' Conquest of the Empire'', '' Broadsides and Boarding Parties'', and, ''Axis & Allies''. Other companies for which he has designed games include Mattel, Coleco, Parker Brothers, Hasbro Games Group, Hasbro Interactive, and Infogrames Interactive. Broadsides And Boarding Parties
''Broadsides and Boarding Parties'' is a board game published by Milton Bradley in 1984 as part of their Gamemaster series. It was the 3rd in the series of games that are all designed by Larry Harris. It is the only game of that series to feature a two player game (all of the games in the Gamemaster series were for two or more players), ''Broadsides and Boarding Parties'' is a duel between a Spanish galleon and a pirate ship. Players take turns moving their ship and firing at the other ship to sink her. If the ships collide then players may take boarding parties onto the other ship to try to win. The original version of this game, published by The Citadel in 1982, used a paper map and cardboard pieces and did not have the plastic ships, cannons, and other playing pieces. ''Thin Ice'' is a board game that was produced in 1989 by the Pressman Toy Corporation. The objective of the game is to place as many wet marbles as possible on a tissue, simulating thin ice, before it breaks and releases the marbles. ''Trivial Pursuit'' is a board game in which winning is determined by a player's ability to answer trivia and popular culture questions. Players move their pieces around a board, the squares they land on determining the subject of a question they are asked from a card (from six categories including "history" and "science and nature"). Each correct answer allows the player's turn to continue; a correct answer on one of the six "category headquarters" spaces earns a plastic wedge which is slotted into the answerer's playing piece. ''Lionheart'' is a medieval miniature wargame designed by Larry Harris and published by Parker Brothers in 1997. Similar to chess, players control different ranks of soldiers in battle, but with the success or failure of a move determined by dice roll. Gameplay ''Lionheart'' is played on a 9 by 10 board, with each army starting in the first two rows on opposite sides. There are different types of soldiers– kings, knights, archers, infantry, heavy infantry, mercenaries, and peasants– which each have different movement and methods of fighting. Gold and silver miniatures of soldiers are slotted into bases to create units, which perform actions together. Players decide the compositions and starting positions of their ten units, although the king must always be included and start in the middle of the back row.
