Frank Larkin
Frank Larkin (1972 – 27 March 2020) was an Irish disability rights activist. He was one of the most prominent such figures in his country. Biography Larkin was born with the birth defect spina bifida. He stated that his "will to campaign" came from "the frustrations I experience relating to having a disability". He ran for Letterkenny Town Council as a Fine Gael candidate in the 2009 elections, but was unsuccessful. He attended a hearing on disability issues at the European Parliament in 2012. Larkin was elected chairperson of his country's national campaign for disabilities in 2013. He was one of twenty participants from fourteen different countries chosen to attend a conference in Budapest in March 2014. In 2015, Larkin became involved in a dispute with Facebook over posts it decided were not offensive, among which was an advertisement for a spina bifida doll that encouraged the buyer to abuse it. Lorenz Larkin (born September 3, 1986) is an American professional mixed martial artist who formerly competed in the Welterweight division of Bellator MMA. A professional competitor since 2009, Larkin formerly competed for Strikeforce and the Ultimate Fighting Championship (UFC). Background Larkin was born and raised in Riverside, California as one of nine siblings. Larkin began training in boxing at a young age and also played football, but soon gave it up because he did not excel at it or other team sports. He attended Riverside Polytechnic High School. Joan Larkin (born April 16, 1939 in Boston) is an American poet, playwright, and writing teacher. She was active in the small press lesbian feminist publishing explosion of the 1970s, co-founding the independent publishing company Out & Out Books. The science fiction writer Donald Moffitt was her brother. Education and career Joan Larkin earned a Bachelor of Arts degree at Swarthmore College, a Master of Arts degree in English at the University of Arizona, and a Master of Fine Arts degree in playwriting at Brooklyn College. Larkin has served on the faculties of Brooklyn College, Sarah Lawrence College, and Goddard College, and as Distinguished Visiting Poet at Columbia College Chicago. Herbert Joseph Larkin, (8 October 1894 – 10 June 1972) was an Australian flying ace of the First World War credited with 11 confirmed victories. Postwar, he became a pioneering aviator and aircraft manufacturer in Australia. He served in the Royal Air Force during the Second World War, and later became a human rights advocate and author.
