Largs Bay is a suburb in the Australian state of South Australia located on the Lefevre Peninsula in the west of Adelaide about northwest of the Adelaide city centre. Description Largs bay is bounded to the north by Walcot and Warwick Street, to the south by Wills, Hargrave and Union Streets and in the west and east by Gulf St Vincent and the centre of the Port River respectively. It is adjacent to the suburbs of Largs North, Peterhead, Port Adelaide and Semaphore. It is essentially a residential suburb, with a minor harbourside presence on the eastern side of the suburb. It is located within the local government area of the City of Port Adelaide Enfield. History Largs Bay originally started as a private sub-division in Section 1069 in the cadastral unit of the Hundred of Port Adelaide. City Of Port Adelaide Enfield
The City of Port Adelaide Enfield, located across inner north and north-western suburbs of Adelaide, is one of the largest metropolitan councils within South Australia. It was established on 26 March 1996 by the amalgamation of the City of Port Adelaide and the City of Enfield. Extending from the River Torrens to Outer Harbor, and covering an area of approximately 97 km², the Port Adelaide Enfield contains some of the South Australia's finest historical buildings and landmarks. The Hundred of Port Adelaide is a cadastral hundred covering the vicinity of Port Adelaide, Lefevre Peninsula and the coast of the central Adelaide Plains south of Gawler River and west of Port Wakefield Road. It is one of the eleven hundreds of the County of Adelaide and was named in 1846 by Governor Frederick Robe. Local government The District Council of Yatala was proclaimed in 1853, the first local government body in the hundred. As well as much of the centre of the Hundred of Yatala, it covered a vast undeveloped south eastern swathe of the Hundred of Port Adelaide, including the Dry Creek and North Arm Creek wetlands. Outer Harbor Railway Line
The Outer Harbor railway line is a suburban branch line in Adelaide, South Australia. It runs from Adelaide station through the north western suburbs to Port Adelaide and Outer Harbor. It is 21.9 kilometres in length, and shares part of its run with the Grange line. It is operated by Adelaide Metro. Since 2016, the line has been used as a shuttle for cruise liner passengers heading for Adelaide, with additional services provided. Largs Railway Station, Adelaide
Largs railway station is located on the Outer Harbor line. Situated in the north-western Adelaide suburb of Largs Bay, it is 15.5 kilometres from Adelaide station. History Largs station was opened in 1907. A short line to Largs Jetty branched off just south of the station, but this closed in 1908. Originally, Largs station had a centre track in that space that was connected between both tracks and used as holding siding for trains, hence why the gap between the platforms is unusually wider than most stations. In 2014, some minor works were undertaken on the station to provide help with patrons from a nearby retirement village on Jetty Road.
