Laravale is a rural locality in the Scenic Rim Region, Queensland, Australia. In the , Laravale had a population of 189 people. Geography Part of the southern border is marked by the Christmas Creek, the Logan River and the Mount Lindesay Highway. Round Mountain is in the north of the locality () rising to . In the east of the locality, the terrain is elevated above above sea level. Agriculture, including dairying, has developed in the more fertile areas adjacent to the Logan River. The Sydney–Brisbane rail corridor also passes through the locality. History Errisvale Provisional School opened on 22 February 1900. In 1907 it was renamed Laravale Provisional School. On 1 January 1909 it became Laravale State School. The school was mothballed on 31 December 2007 and then closed on 31 December 2010. The school was located at 73-77 Christmas Creek Road (). Logan River
The Logan River ( Yugambeh: ''Dugulumba'') is a perennial river located in the Scenic Rim, Logan and Gold Coast local government areas of the South East region of Queensland, Australia. The -long river is one of the dominant waterways in South East Queensland that drains the southern ranges of the Scenic Rim and empties into Moreton Bay after navigating the City of Logan, a major suburban centre located south of Brisbane. The catchment is dominated by urban and agricultural land use. Near the river mouth are mangrove forests and a number of aquaculture farms. Tamrookum is a rural locality in the Scenic Rim Region, Queensland, Australia. In the , Tamrookum had a population of 91 people. Geography The Mount Lindesay Highway traverses Tamrookum from north ( Laravale) to south ( Innisplain) and forms part of the north-west boundary. The Logan River forms its eastern boundary. The Sydney–Brisbane rail corridor also passes through the locality from north to south to the west of the highway with Tamrookum railway station at . The Shire of Beaudesert was a local government area located in South East Queensland, Australia, stretching from the New South Wales border, along the Gold Coast hinterland to the urban fringes of the cities of Brisbane and Ipswich. The Shire covered an area of , and existed from 1879 until its abolition on 15 March 2008, following which it was split between Logan City and the new Scenic Rim Region. Augustine Heights is a suburb in the City of Ipswich, Queensland, Australia. In the , Augustine Heights had a population of 4,880 people. History Augustine Heights is one of the suburbs created within Greater Springfield, Australia's largest master-planned community. It was officially named and bounded on 19 September 2003. St Augustine's College opened on 29 January 2003. The Beaudesert Times
The ''Beaudesert Times'' is a newspaper published in Beaudesert, Queensland, Australia. History The newspaper was a result of the merger of two existing newspapers, The Beaudesert Despatch and Logan and Albert Leader and The Beaudesert Herald with politician Patrick James Leahy holding the controlling interest. John Adamson Walker and F. Parker had formerly run the Herald and they became manager and editor respectively of the new paper. After Parker left, Walker became the managing editor. The first issue was published on 10 October 1908; it cost threepence. In March 1967 it was renamed the Logan and Albert Times, but returned to being the Beaudesert Times in 1985. James Duhig
Sir James Duhig KCMG (2 September 187110 April 1965) was an Irish-born Australian Roman Catholic religious leader. He was the Archbishop of Brisbane for 48 years from 1917 until his death in 1965. At the time of his death he was the longest-serving bishop in the Catholic Church (1905–1965). Early years Duhig was born in Broadford, County Limerick but emigrated with his family to Australia as a young boy. He completed his education at St. Joseph's College, Gregory Terrace, Queensland. After that, he worked for the Cooperative Butchering Company. Beaudesert Shire Tramway
The Beaudesert Shire Tramway was a narrow gauge tramway which operated from Beaudesert to Lamington and Rathdowney in the Scenic Rim Region, Queensland, Australia, It was one of 15 light railways built and operated by Divisional Boards and Shire Councils in Queensland. The line carried passengers and cargo. It operated from 1903 to 1944. It was initially profitable and seen as a great success for the local shire council. The tramway is credited with opening up the agricultural lands of the upper Logan River.
