André Laplante, (born November 12, 1949) is a Canadian ( Québécois) pianist. He received a 2004 Juno Award for the 2003 recording ''Concertos: Music of Jacques Hétu''. He is considered to be a Franz Liszt specialist and is much associated with the music of Maurice Ravel. Education and early career Born in Rimouski, Quebec, Canada, Laplante began studying piano at seven and continued after 1964 at the École Vincent-d'Indy with Natalie Pépin and Yvonne Hubert. In 1965 he won the Montreal Symphony Orchestra (MSO) Matinées prize for young performers, and in 1968 he took first prize at the MSO Concours and the Quebec Music Festivals. He continued his studies during 19701971 in New York at the Juilliard School with Sascha Gorodnitzki and, with the aid of Canada Council grants, during 19711974 in Paris with Yvonne Lefébure. Charles Champagne (MLA For Deux-Montagnes)
Charles Laplante dit Champagne (October 16, 1838 – December 22, 1907) was a lawyer, judge and political figure in Quebec. He represented Deux-Montagnes in the Legislative Assembly of Quebec from 1876 to 1882 as a Conservative. His name also appears as Charles Champagne. He was born in Saint-Eustache, Lower Canada, the son of Charles Laplante dit Champagne and Christine Andrave. He was educated at the Séminaire de Sainte-Thérèse-de-Blainville and worked on the family farm, going on to study law with Gédéon Ouimet and Joseph-Adolphe Chapleau. In 1860, he married Aglaé Éthier. He was admitted to the Lower Canada bar in 1865. Champagne was first elected to the Quebec assembly in an 1876 by-election held after Gédéon Ouimet resigned his seat. He resigned his seat in 1882 and ran unsuccessfully for reelection later that year. Courtney Stringer (née LaPlante, born February 26, 1989) is a singer and songwriter best known as the lead vocalist of the Canadian heavy metal band Spiritbox. LaPlante began singing in bands as a teenager, but first gained success as the lead singer of the now-defunct metalcore band Iwrestledabearonce. As the successor of the band's original vocalist, LaPlante recorded and performed with the band from 2012 until 2015. She left the group months after the release of her second album with the group, ''Hail Mary'' (2015). In 2016, LaPlante married longtime bandmate Mike Stringer; they have played together in each of LaPlante's bands. Spiritbox is a Canadian heavy metal band from Victoria, British Columbia. Husband and wife duo guitarist Mike Stringer and vocalist Courtney LaPlante established Spiritbox in 2017. The band's full lineup comprises LaPlante, Stringer and drummer Zev Rose; former As I Lay Dying bassist Josh Gilbert currently performs live with the band. The band's metal style is difficult to pigeonhole into a specific metal music genre and displays an array of styles that draw from a variety of influences and incorporate electronic elements. Darryl Laplante (born March 28, 1977) is a Canadian former professional ice hockey centre who played in 35 career National Hockey League games for the Detroit Red Wings. He is currently a non-competitive pond hockey player for the Steelhawks Playing career After three seasons in the Western Hockey League with the Moose Jaw Warriors, Laplante made his professional debut with Red Wings' AHL affiliate, the Adirondack Red Wings in the 1997–98 season. He also appeared in two NHL games with Detroit that season. Laplante spent the next two seasons in the Detroit organization. Early life La Plante was born in St. Louis, Missouri, on November 1, 1904, the daughter of William A. Laplante and Elizabeth E. Turk. Her father taught dancing. After her parents were divorced, her mother took Laura and her sister Violet to live in San Diego, California. In her teens, Laura stayed with a cousin, Mary MacMahon, in Hollywood during a summer vacation and replied to a newspaper ad asking for children for moving pictures, and she was hired. Violet La Plante (born Violet LaPlant; January 17, 1908 – June 1, 1984), also known as Violet Avon, was an American silent film actress. Biography Violet La Plante, born and raised in St. Louis, Missouri, was the younger sister of future Hollywood star Laura La Plante, and started acting in the early 1920s, adapting her surname to "La Plante", like her sister. Her first film was in 1924, starring opposite Buddy Roosevelt, in ''Battling Buddy''. She starred in four films in 1924. The following year, she made just one film, but was included in the WAMPAS Baby Stars (at the time, baby star was common slang for starlet). Her sister Laura was a 1923 WAMPAS Baby Stars.
