Lapford railway station is a rural station on the Tarka Line, serving the village of Lapford in Devon. It is from at milepost 189.75 from . History The railway between and was opened by the North Devon Railway on 1 August 1854 but there was no station at Lapford until 20 September 1855 when a platform was opened on the north side of the single track to the west of the road bridge. This was provided with a stone building containing the offices and a house for the station master, A passing loop was opened on 1 October 1873 and a wooden signal box with 13 levers built opposite the west end of the platform by the points to the loop. There was no room here for a platform to serve the new second track so it had to be built on the east side of the road bridge. This platform was unusually built in between the two lines but the back of the platform was fenced off so passengers could only board or leave westbound trains (those towards Barnstaple). Lapford
Lapford is a village and civil parish in Mid Devon in the English county of Devon. It had a population of 993 in 2001, reducing to 867 at the 2011 census. Lapford is part of Taw Valley ward whose population at the above census was 1,629. Churches There are three churches in the village. St Thomas of Canterbury C of E church, Lapford Community Church and Lapford Congregational church. Originally a Norman chapel, the church of St Thomas of Canterbury is listed Grade I and partly dates back to shortly after the murder of Thomas Becket (1170), having been almost completely rebuilt, extended and then re-dedicated on the orders of King Henry II by William de Tracey, one of the assassins. Ambrosia is a brand of food products in the United Kingdom. Its original product was a dried milk powder for infants, but it is now mostly known for its custard and rice pudding. Devon And Cornwall Rail Partnership
The Devon and Cornwall Rail Partnership is the largest Community Rail Partnership in the United Kingdom. It was formed in 1991 to promote the use of, and improvements to, rural railways in Devon and Cornwall, and also to promote the places served in order to improve the local economy. Eggesford railway station is a rural station in Devon, England, serving Eggesford, the town of Chulmleigh and surrounding villages. Despite its name, the station is in the neighbouring civil parish of Chawleigh. It is on the Tarka Line to , from at milepost 193.75 from . History The station was opened by the North Devon Railway on 1 August 1854, taking its name from Eggesford House, seat of the Earl of Portsmouth who was a supporter of the railway. Although there was a passing loop it only had a single platform on the north side of the line but a second platform was eventually added. A signal box was provided in 1873 on the second platform. The platform was damaged and the signal box subsided when the River Taw flooded on 21 November 1967. Morchard Road railway station is located in the village of Down St Mary in Devon, England. It is named after the village of Morchard Bishop which lies a few miles to the north-east.
