Laodicea In Phrygia
The Diocese of Laodicea in Phrygia, is an important Titular Christian Diocese, centered on the biblical city of Laodicea on the Lycus in modern Turkey. The Church at Laodicea was a centre of Christianity from a very early point. The New Testament indicates a Christian presence in Laodicea as early as the AD 50s. The church is mentioned extensively in the epistle to the Colossians, and the First Epistle to Timothy may have been written here. Further, the church was one of the Seven churches of Asia. Cecropius Of Nicomedia
Cecropius of Nicomedia was a bishop of Nicomedia and a key player in the Arian controversy. Career Cecropius, a Semi-Arianism, semi-Arian, had been Diocese of Laodicensis in Phrygia#Known Bishops, Bishop of Laodicea, and was transferred from Laodicea on the Lycus, Laodicea by the Arian Roman Emperor, emperor Constantius I in 351Anno Domini, AD. Athanasius bishop of Alexandria, was critical of this appointment and royal interference in the church. Nicomedia, a former Bithynian and for a short time under Diocletian, Ancient Rome, Roman capital, and short distance from Constantine the Great, Constantine's Palace at Nicaea was an influential and rich city in the early Byzantine empire and the appointment as bishop carried much influence. The First Council of Nicaea (; grc, Νίκαια ) was a council of Christian bishops convened in the Bithynian city of Nicaea (now İznik, Turkey) by the Roman Emperor Constantine I in AD 325. This ecumenical council was the first effort to attain consensus in the church through an assembly representing all Christendom. Hosius of Corduba may have presided over its deliberations. The reign of the emperor Diocletian (284−305) marked the final widespread persecution of Christians in the Roman Empire.
