Lanyon Valley
Lanyon Valley ({{IPAc-en, ˈ, l, æ, n, j, ə, n) is a district located at the southeast end of Canberra, Australia, including the suburbs of Gordon, Conder, and Banks. Region The Lanyon Valley is a small community containing five schools: Lanyon High School, Covenant College, Conder Primary School, Gordon Primary School, and St. Clare of Assisi. Lanyon Valley contains three shopping facilities, Lanyon Shopping Centre being the main with more than 20 shopping facilities including a Woolworth's, McDonald's, Subway, Kingsleys; also two Asian restaurants, two takeaways, and chemist, newsagents, butchers, and local and Woolworth liquor. Conder, Australian Capital Territory
Conder is one of three suburbs in the Lanyon Valley in Canberra, Australia. It lies in the district of Tuggeranong. The three suburbs are presently (as of 2011) the southernmost suburbs of the city, although the small settlement of Tharwa exists only a short distance further south. Named after artist Charles Conder, the suburb of Conder extends from the slopes of Tuggeranong Hill to the valley floor. Conder is home to the valley's main services including the Lanyon Market Place, Lanyon High School and one of the four Vikings clubs in Canberra. Also included in the suburb are St Clare of Assisi Primary School, Charles Conder Primary School, a youth centre, child care centre and a family services centre. Just like the name of the suburb, the streets of Conder are named after artists, including members of the Heidelberg School and places associated with that school. Lanyon High School
Lanyon High School is a secondary school located in Conder, Australian Capital Territory. It serves the Lanyon Valley and surrounding rural areas in the Tuggeranong district of Canberra, Australia. The school was established in 1996 by the ACT department of education to address the needs of young people in years 7–10 as they move from primary school to further education, training or employment. History There is a lot of history in the school walls, such as the Canberran singing legend himself, Timomatic. Covenant Christian School, formerly known as Covenant College, is an independent Christian primary and high school located on Woodcock Drive, Gordon in the Australian Capital Territory and owned and operated by an association of like-minded Christian parents and supporters. The official theological position of the school is based on the Westminster Confession of Faith and other expressions of the reformed faith. The F. W. Woolworth Company (often referred to as Woolworth's or simply Woolworth) was a retail company and one of the pioneers of the five-and-dime store. It was among the most successful American and international five-and-dime businesses, setting trends and creating the modern retail model that stores follow worldwide today. The first Woolworth store was opened by Frank Winfield Woolworth on February 22, 1879, as "Woolworth's Great Five Cent Store" in Utica, New York. Banks, Australian Capital Territory
Banks is a suburb in the Canberra, Australia district of Tuggeranong. It is the most southerly suburb of Canberra. The suburb is named after Sir Joseph Banks (1743–1820), the botanist who accompanied Captain James Cook to Botany Bay in 1770. The suburb was gazetted on 12 March 1987. The theme of the street names is botany or natural history. Banks is located adjacent to the suburbs of Conder and Gordon. It is bounded by Box Hill Avenue, Tom Roberts Avenue and Tharwa Drive.
