Lansdowne, New South Wales (Greater Taree)
Lansdowne is a rural village on the Mid North Coast near Taree in New South Wales, Australia. The village lies in the Lansdowne River valley, adjacent to the Coorabakh National Park and the village of Langley Vale, which was served by the Langley Vale Timber Tramway from 1897 to 1933, as well as Coopernook and the Lansdowne State Forests. It is the gateway to the Manning River Valley's northern hinterland Jo. The first settler of Lansdowne was Benjamin Saville (1814-1896). In 1848 Benjamin purchased 50 acres on the northern bank of the Lansdowne river. The Saville property became the main crossing point for travellers going to and from Port Macquarie for nearly 40 years. The village and surrounding areas are serviced by a post office and general store, a primary school for children in kindergarten - year 6 and a bowling and recreation club. Taree is a town on the Mid North Coast, New South Wales, Australia. Taree and nearby Cundletown were settled in 1831 by William Wynter. Coorabakh National Park
Coorabakh is a national park located near Hannam Vale in New South Wales, Australia, northeast of Sydney. Three volcanic outcrops known as ''Big Nellie'' (), ''Flat Nellie'' () and ''Little Nellie'' () dominate the park. The park is covered in tall eucalypt forest and shrubs on the exposed Lansdowne escarpment, while warm temperate and subtropical rainforest can be found in more protected areas. Endangered species such as the spotted-tailed quoll, powerful owl and stuttering frog can be found in the area. Newbys Cave is can be reached by following Newbys Creek from the carpark, while Newbys Lookout offers picnic facilities and panoramic views of the Manning River valley. Langley Vale Timber Tramway
The Langley Vale Timber Tramway was a -long narrow gauge railway network with mainly wooden rails with a gauge of . It was used from 1897 to 1933 for transporting logs to a sawmill at Lansdowne in the Manning River Valley, north of Taree, New South Wales. Route The track started at the sawmill and ran upwards with grades of up to 12,5 % (1 : 8) over rough trestles with a length of up to 50 m (50 yards), over Cross's Mountain, across Razorback, down a declivity, and up another rise, which forms the western wall of Hannam Vale, being about 365 m (1200 ft) above the starting point. Coopernook, New South Wales
Coopernook is a small town in mid-north New South Wales, Australia (post code 2426). It is located 24 kilometres north of Taree and 11 kilometres west of Harrington and is administered by Mid-Coast Council. At the 2016 census, Coopernook and the surrounding area had a population of 538 people. It was formerly situated on the Pacific Highway, until 22 March 2006, when the Coopernook Bypass was opened. The old highway crossed the Lansdowne River on a narrow iron girder bridge. The name, Coopernook, means "the elbow" in the local Aboriginal language, Biripi. This name refers to the bend in the Lansdowne River which looks like an elbow of an arm. The Coopernook Primary School in Macquarie Street was established in 1875, and in 2006 it had an enrolment of 81. Its enrolment in 2007 was a similar number. North Coast Railway Line, New South Wales
The North Coast Line is the primary rail route in the Mid North Coast and Northern Rivers regions of New South Wales, Australia, and forms a major part of the Sydney–Brisbane rail corridor. The line begins at Maitland and ends at Roma Street railway station in Brisbane, although freight services terminate at the yard at Acacia Ridge on the outskirts of Brisbane.
