Lans is a town in the district of Innsbruck Land in the Austrian state of Tyrol. The village is located 8 km (15 minutes by car) south of the city of Innsbruck. Lans is located on the old salt road and first mentioned in 1180 as "Lannes". Villard-de-Lans (; oc, Lo Vilar de Lanç) is a Communes of France, commune in the Isère Departments of France, department of the Auvergne-Rhône-Alpes Regions of France, region in southeastern France. The town is also situated in the Vercors Massif. It was the administrative centre of the eponymous canton until the 2015 French departmental elections, departmental elections of 2015. After the elections, Villard-de-Lans and the communes of its former canton were all incorporated into the new canton of Fontaine-Vercors. The town remains the seat of the Community of Communes in the Vercors Massif (CCMV). The town is a centre for skiing in winter, as well as hiking and hot air ballooning during the other seasons. Christiaan Ernst Lans (born 12 September 1789 – 17 August 1843) was a soldier in the Royal Netherlands Army who by royal decree of 2 December 1832 was appointed Commander of the Dutch Gold Coast. He took office on 11 May 1833 and served until 1836, upon which he returned to the Netherlands. Lans was Commander of the Dutch Gold Coast when the ambitious George Maclean was Governor of the British Gold Coast. Lans tried to settle territorial disputes with the British in a peaceful manner. When he returned to the Netherlands in 1836, he was succeeded by the young and erratic Hendrik Tonneboeijer Hendrikus Jacobus Tonneboeijer (born 18 August 1814 – 28 October 1837) was a Dutch colonial officer, who made a career in the administration on the Dutch Gold Coast. Arij Lans Bovenberg (born June 15, 1958) is a Dutch economist, and Professor of Economics at the Tilburg University and Erasmus University, known mainly due to his contribution to the Dutch debate on population ageing, pension reforms and public finances.
