Bryan County is a county located in the U.S. state of Georgia. As of the 2010 census, the population was 30,233. The county seat is Pembroke. Bryan County is part of the Savannah, GA Metropolitan Statistical Area. The Bryan County Courthouse is listed on the National Register of Historic Places. History Bryan County was created on December 19, 1793, named after Jonathan Bryan (1708–1788), an American Revolutionary War partisan. South Bryan County is home to the earthen Civil War installation Fort McAllister (now Fort McAllister Historic Park) which Gen. William Sherman captured on his March to the Sea. Pembroke is a city and county seat in Bryan County, Georgia, Bryan County, Georgia (U.S. state), Georgia, United States. It is located approximately 35 miles west of Savannah, Georgia, and approximately 20 miles south of Statesboro, Georgia. History Pembroke was founded in 1892 as a railroad town and turpentine shipping center. It was named after early resident Pembroke Whitfield Williams. It was incorporated in 1905. The county seat was voted to be moved from Clyde, Georgia, Clyde to Pembroke in 1935, with the first County Commissioners session in Pembroke taking place on February 15, 1937. State Route 204 (SR 204) is a state highway in the east-central part of the U.S. state of Georgia. It runs from a point east of Pembroke and ends in Savannah. Its routing is located within portions of Bryan and Chatham counties. Route description SR 204 begins at an intersection with US 280/ SR 30 in Lanier. It heads east through Ellabell, Georgia. It curves to the southeast and parallels the northeastern part of Fort Stewart. It has an interchange with Interstate 95 (I-95), followed by an interchange with US 17/ SR 25 (Ocean Highway), an interchange with King George Boulevard, an interchange with the Veterans Parkway (also known as the Southwest Bypass) and an interchange with Harry S. Clement Lanier
Clement Lanier was an English musician and recorder player. He was the son of Nicholas Lanier, the Elder and Lucretia Bassano, and hence uncle of Nicholas Lanier, the artist-musician. Clement Lanier was born circa 1580-85 in England, and was buried 6 Nov 1661 at St. Alphage Church Greenwich, County Kent. His will was proved 3 Dec 1661 and registered 20 May 1662 (TNA/PCC PROB 11/306), with his daughter, Hannah, as Executrix. Although referred to as a "Gentleman," all royal musicians were afforded this title. In this context, the word did not convey the usual meaning of a man possessing a coat of arms or an income from property that eliminated the need to work for one’s livelihood.
