Langevåg Church
Langevåg Church ( no, Langevåg kyrkje) is a parish church of the Church of Norway in Sula Municipality in Møre og Romsdal county, Norway. It is located in the village of Langevåg on the northern shore of the island of Sula. It is one of the two churches for the Sula parish which is part of the Nordre Sunnmøre prosti (deanery) in the Diocese of Møre. The white, stone church was built in a long church design in 1948 using plans drawn up by the architect Øyvind B. Grimnes. The church seats about 400 people. History Throughout history, the island of Sula was part of the Borgund Church parish. In 1932, small prayer house was opened in Langevåg where church services were sometimes held. Planning for a church building began soon after. Sverre Pedersen was first hired as an architect, but that fell through and ultimately the parish hired Øivind Berg Grimnes, who was a city architect in Ålesund. Long Church
Church building in Norway began when Christianity was established there around the year 1000. The first buildings may have been post churches erected in the 10th or 11th century, but the evidence is inconclusive. For instance under Urnes Stave Church and Lom Stave Church there are traces of older post churches. Post churches were later replaced by the more durable stave churches. About 1,300 churches were built during the 12th and 13th centuries in what was Norway's first building boom. A total of about 3,000 churches have been built in Norway, although nearly half of them have perished. Sula () is a municipality in Møre og Romsdal county, Norway. It is part of the Sunnmøre district. The administrative centre is the village of Langevåg. Other villages include Solevåg, Fiskarstrand, Veibust, Leirvågen, and Mauseidvåg. Borgund Church ( no, Borgund kyrkje) is a parish church of the Church of Norway in Ålesund Municipality in Møre og Romsdal county, Norway.
