Susanne Langer
Susanne Katherina Langer (; ''née'' Knauth; December 20, 1895 – July 17, 1985) was an American philosopher, writer, and educator known for her theories on the influences of art on the mind. She was one of the earliest American women to achieve an academic career in philosophy and the first woman to be professionally recognized as an American philosopher. Langer is best remembered for her 1942 book '' Philosophy in a New Key'' which was followed by a sequel ''Feeling and Form: A Theory of Art'' in 1953. Felicia Langer (9 December 1930 – 21 June 2018) was a German-Israeli attorney and human rights activist known for her defence of Palestinian political prisoners in the West Bank and Gaza Strip. Alois Langer
Alois A. Langer (born February 24, 1945 in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania) is an American biomedical engineer best known as one of the co-inventors of the Implantable Cardioverter Defibrillator (ICD). Langer was inducted into the National Inventors Hall of Fame in 2002 for his contribution to developing the ICD. He studied electrical engineering at the Massachusetts Institute of Technology and completed his Ph.D. thesis at Carnegie Mellon University. In 1972, Langer became the chief biomedical engineer at MedRad Inc. and started work on the ICD project. In 1980, he oversaw the final testing and implantation of the device into a human patient. Albert Langer (also known as Arthur Dent) is an Australian political activist, best known for his 1996 conviction and gaoling on contempt of court, contempt charges after breaching an injunction forbidding his advocacy of marking ballot, electoral ballot papers in a way discouraged by the Australian Electoral Commission. Langer's lines, Langer lines of skin tension, or sometimes called cleavage lines, are topological lines drawn on a map of the human body. They are parallel to the natural orientation of collagen fibers in the dermis, and generally perpendicular to the underlying muscle fibers. Bernard Langer (surgeon)
Bernard Langer (May 23, 1932 — February 23, 2022) was a Canadian surgeon and educator. In 2015, he was inducted into the Canadian Medical Hall of Fame. Biography Born in Toronto, he received an MD (1956) from the University of Toronto, interned at the Toronto General Hospital (TGH) and completed training as a surgeon at the University of Toronto. Langer subsequently pursued training in oncology at MD Anderson Hospital in Houston and in liver transplantation at Brigham Hospital in Boston. In 1963, he was named to the staff of the TGH. Although a general surgeon, Langer developed an expertise in liver, pancreas and biliary tract surgeries. He became head of the general surgery division at the hospital in 1972.
