Langal
''Langal'' (Bengali for plough) was a Bengali leftist-literary magazine published from Kolkata in the early 20th century. It was edited by Kazi Nazrul Islam. History ''Langal'' started publication on 16 December 1925. ''Langal'' was the second magazine edited by Kazi Nazrul Islam, the first being '' Dhumketu''. It was the official publication of the Labour Swaraj Party. It published poems about the working class and articles on famous socialists and communists of the era. The first issue printed five thousand copies and sold them all. Rabindranath Tagore wrote a piece for magazine at the request of Kazi Nazrul Islam. The last issue of the magazine was 21 January 1926. In May 2001, a book on the magazine, called ''Nazruler Langal'', was published by Nazrul Institute. It was published on Kazi Nazrul Islams's hundred birth anniversary. Workers And Peasants Party (India)
The Workers and Peasants Party (WPP) (also known as the Kirti Kisan Party) was a political party in India, which worked inside the Indian National Congress in 1925–1929. It became an important front organisation for the Communist Party of India and an influential force in the Bombay labour movement. The party was able to muster some success in making alliances with other left elements inside the Congress Party, amongst them Jawaharlal Nehru. However, as the Communist International entered its ' Third Period' phase, the communists deserted the WPP project. The WPP was wound up, as its leadership was arrested by the British authorities in March 1929. Founding of the party The party was founded in Bengal on 1 November 1925, as the Labour Swaraj Party of the Indian National Congress. Kazi Nazrul Islam
Kazi Nazrul Islam ( bn, কাজী নজরুল ইসলাম, ; 24 May 1899 – 29 August 1976) was a Bengali poet, Bengali literature, writer, Bangladeshi music, musician, and is the national poet of Bangladesh. Nazrul is regarded as one of the greatest poets in Bengali literature. Popularly known as Nazrul, he produced a Complete Works of Kazi Nazrul Islam, large body of poetry, music, messages, novels, stories, etc. with themes that included equality, justice, anti-imperialism, humanity, rebellion against oppression and religious devotion. Nazrul's activism for political and social justice as well as writing a poem titled as "Bidrohī", meaning "the rebel" in Bengali, earned him the title of "Bidrohī Kôbi" (''Rebel Poet''). ''Dhumketu'' ( ''dhūmkētu'', "comet") was a bi-weekly magazine edited by Kazi Nazrul Islam which was first published on 11 August 1922. The magazine was started with a four-page format, later elaborated to eight pages. The last issue of the magazine was published in March 1923. Many of the popular poems of Nazrul including ''Anandamoyeer Agamane, Dhumketu ''etc.'' ''were published in this magazine. Sarat Chandra Chattopadhyay also contributed to the magazine. Rabindranath Tagore
Rabindranath Tagore (; bn, রবীন্দ্রনাথ ঠাকুর; 7 May 1861 – 7 August 1941) was a Bengali polymath who worked as a poet, writer, playwright, composer, philosopher, social reformer and painter. He reshaped Bengali literature and music as well as Indian art with Contextual Modernism in the late 19th and early 20th centuries. Nazrul Institute
The Nazrul Institute is Bangladesh's national institute, established in February 1985. Its headquarters are located in Kabi Bhaban in Dhanmondi, Dhaka, Bangladesh. It fulfills a number of roles; promoting the literary work of the poet Kazi Nazrul Islam, recognising excellence in literature research by conferring awards, and public engagement. Structure and governance The institute is headed by an executive director who has a trustee board to advise them. The first executive director of the institute was Mohammad Mahfuzullah and the first chairman of the trustee board was Mohammad Nasiruddin.
