Laneville, Texas
Laneville is an unincorporated community in south central Rusk County, Texas, United States. According to the Handbook of Texas, the community had a population of 200 in 2000. It is located within the Longview, Texas metropolitan area. History The town came into being as a crossroads community in the 1880s. The intersection of four "lanes" furnished the town's name. This area was settled by wealthy men who enjoyed the redlands and encouraged other people to avoid sandy spots. The town was granted a post office in 1888 with Philetus Williamson as its first postmaster. It is currently one of only 14 post offices operating in the county since 1950. Its population was 171 in 1904 and went down to 108 in 1925. The population boomed to 320 when the East Texas Oil Field came in the early 1930s and had 16 businesses in operation. Mark Moseley
Mark DeWayne Moseley (born March 12, 1948) is an American former professional football player who was a placekicker in the National Football League (NFL) for 16 seasons. He played for Philadelphia Eagles (1970), the Houston Oilers (1971–72), the Washington Redskins (1974–86), and the Cleveland Browns (1986). A native of Livingston, Texas, Moseley played quarterback at Texas A&M University and Stephen F. Austin State University before switching to kicker for his senior season at Stephen F. Austin. Drafted by the Eagles in the 14th round of the 1970 NFL Draft, he played one season with them and then two seasons with the Houston Oilers. Mount Enterprise, Texas
Mount Enterprise is a city in Rusk County, Texas, United States. The population was 447 at the 2010 census. History The city of Mount Enterprise, located south of Henderson in rural Rusk County, was named for a small elevation near the town and for the business enterprise of the Vinzent brothers, who settled it in 1832. The town owes its existence to the presence of promising iron ore in the area. Charles Vinzent considered the "old mountain" nearby to be an "iron mountain," and he was not far off the mark; the brown, crumbly ore of the Weches formation that outcrops in the area has a better than 50 percent iron content. However, Vinzent's real enterprise came in the form of manufacturing and retailing. His factory made wagons, buggies, furniture, plows, caskets, and a patented churn. Angelina River
The Angelina River is formed by the junction of Barnhardt and Shawnee creeks northwest of Laneville in southwest central Rusk County, Texas. The river flows southeast for and forms the boundaries between Cherokee and Nacogdoches, Angelina and Nacogdoches, and Angelina and San Augustine counties. It passes under US 59 via former Angelina River Bridge. It empties into the Neches River north of Jasper in northwestern Jasper County. The Sam Rayburn Reservoir is on the southern part of the river. A sawmill (saw mill, saw-mill) or lumber mill is a facility where logs are cut into lumber. East Texas Oil Field
The East Texas Oil Field is a large oil and gas field in east Texas. Covering and parts of five counties, and having 30,340 historic and active oil wells, it is the second-largest oil field in the United States outside Alaska, and first in total volume of oil recovered since its discovery in 1930.
