Lane Hotel
The Lane Hotel is a historic former hotel building in Rogers, Arkansas, United States. It is a five-story yellow brick Spanish Revival building, designed by architect John Parks Almand and completed in 1929. It is the largest Spanish Revival building in Arkansas, with a prominent colonnade of arches at the second level, above a first floor series of commercial storefronts, and a central tower. The hotel was not successful, having been completed just at the outset of the Great Depression, and went through a succession of owners before closing in 1965. Beginning in 1999 it was a retirement community known as Peachtree on the Lane It was refurbished in 2017 and now houses Haas Hall Academy Rogers campus. The building was listed on the National Register of Historic Places in 1988. Rogers, Arkansas
Rogers is a city in Benton County, Arkansas, United States. Located in the Ozarks, it is part of the Northwest Arkansas region, one of the fastest growing metro areas in the country. Rogers was the location of the first Walmart store, whose corporate headquarters is located in neighboring Bentonville. Daisy Outdoor Products, known for its air rifles, has both its headquarters and its Airgun Museum in Rogers. As of the 2010 census, the city had a population of 55,964. In 2019, the estimated population was 68,669, making it the sixth-most populous city in the state. John Parks Almand
John Parks Almand (May 8, 1885 – March 24, 1969) was an American architect who practiced in Arkansas from 1912 to 1962. Among other works, he designed the Art Deco Hot Springs Medical Arts Building, which was the tallest building in Arkansas from 1930 to 1958. Several of his works, including the Medical Arts Building and Little Rock Central High School, are listed on the National Register of Historic Places. Biography He was born in Lithonia, Georgia. He received a bachelor of science degree from Emory College in 1907 and subsequently received a bachelor of architecture degree from Columbia University in 1911. He then worked as the head of the architecture department for a large engineering company in Cuba for one year. In 1912, he moved to Arkansas to work for the firm of Charles L. Thompson. The Spanish Colonial Revival Style ( es, Arquitectura neocolonial española) is an architectural stylistic movement arising in the early 20th century based on the Spanish Colonial architecture of the Spanish colonization of the Americas. The Rogers Commercial Historic District, known informally as Historic Downtown Rogers, is a historic district in the central business district of Rogers, Arkansas. When it was first listed on the National Register of Historic Places in 1988, it was known as the Walnut Street Historic District; this was changed when the district was enlarged in 1993. The district encompasses a portion of the city's central business district, whose historical significance extends from about 1885 to the end of World War II.
