Landegem
Nevele () is a village and former municipality located in the Belgian province of East Flanders. The municipality comprises the towns of Hansbeke, Landegem, Merendree, Nevele proper, Poesele and Vosselare. In 2018, the municipality of Nevele had a total population of 12,179. The total area is 51.89 km². Effective 1 January 2019, the municipality was merged into Deinze. Subdivisions Nevele consisted of six '' deelgemeenten'' (sub-municipalities). Hansbeke
Hansbeke is a village and '' deelgemeente'' (sub-municipality) in the municipality of Deinze in the Belgian province of East Flanders. The village is located about west of Ghent. History The village was first mentioned in 1147 as Hansbeka, and means "brook near Hamme". The parish was demarcated in 1242, and became part of the Diocese of Ghent in 1559. In 1838, a railway station opened on the Ghent to Bruges railway line. Later the E40 highway was constructed parallel to the railway line. The improved connection to the outside world resulted in the transformation of an agricultural community into a commuter's town. Hansbeke was an independent municipality until 1977, when it was merged to Nevele. In 2019, it was merged in Deinze. The villagers have established their own village council in December 2019, because they were worried that they were being ignored by the city in the larger municipality. Lovendegem
Lovendegem () is a town and former municipality located in Flanders, one of the three regions of Belgium, and in the province of East Flanders. The municipality comprised the towns of Lovendegem proper and Vinderhoute. In 2018, Lovendegem had a total population of 9,574. The total area is 19.48 km². History The name of the town was first recorded as ''Lovendenghiem'' in 1150, but there are traces of human settlements back to the Iron Age. The name means "settlement of the people of Lubantos (person)". Lovendegem used to be a complicated patchwork of '' heerlijkheden'' (landed estates) and one barony. The religious wars of the late 16th century and the subsequent repression by the Iron Duke caused a near abandonment of Lovendegem. For most of its history, it was an agricultural community. Drongen
Drongen ( French: ''Tronchiennes'') is a district within the city of Ghent (Arrondissement of Ghent). Drongen is divided into three parishes: Drongen, Luchteren and Baarle, East Flanders, Baarle. Monastery Drongen is known for its early medieval monastery, Drongen Abbey, founded in the 7th century by the monk Amandus, the Missionary of the Leie and Schelde. Destroyed by the Normans in 853, the monastery was rebuilt by the counts of Flanders. The monastery was the victim of the religious wars following the Protestant Reformation, Reformation, and in 1578 it was once again destroyed by Calvinism, Calvinists. In 1638, the abbey church was rebuilt and between 1638 and 1698 the monastery was restored. After a fire in 1727, the church tower was restored once again in 1734, with a distinctive appearance. Bellem
Bellem is a village and ''deelgemeente'' (sub-municipality) in the municipality of Aalter in the Belgian province of East Flanders. The village was originally called ''Bethlehem''. Bellem is located about west of Ghent. History The parish Bellem was founded around 1240 as Bethlehem. It was first mentioned as Bellem in 1291. The village was a ''heerlijkheid'', but used to contain five enclaves containing farms belonging to Schuurvelde. In 1577, Bellem and Schuurvelde were merged into a single ''heerlijkheid''. Around 1650, a castle was built, and Bellem was elevated to barony in 1655. Between 1613 and 1623, the was dug and two forts were constructed by the Spanish near Bellem.
