Land Command (Hungary)
The HDF Land Command (Hungarian: ''MH Szárazföldi Parancsnokság'') is the leading organization of the Hungarian Defence Forces Ground Force, which operates under the direct command of the Army General Staff. It plans and directs the refueling, equipment, supplies, infrastructure, maintenance and development of the Ground Forces, as well as the preparation, redeployment, deployment, national support and rotation of military organizations involved in peacekeeping operations. Its headquarters are located at Székesfehérvár. Its original legal predecessor, Headquarters 5th Army, was established on 3 August 1961 in Budapest. A year later it was relocated to Székesfehérvár. It started operating under difficult conditions, only Second World War obsolete technical equipment was available and it was plagued by material shortages. Hungarian Defence Forces
The Hungarian Defence Forces ( hu, Magyar Honvédség) is the national defence force of Hungary. Since 2007, the Hungarian Armed Forces is under a unified command structure. The Ministry of Defence maintains the political and civil control over the army. A subordinate Joint Forces Command is coordinating and commanding the HDF corps. In 2020, the armed forces had 22,700 personnel on active duty. The 25th Infantry Brigade "György Klapka" ( hu, MH 25. Klapka György Lövészdandár), is a brigade-sized formation of the Hungarian Defence Forces. History The brigade has been restructured several times since its inception more than six decades ago. The predecessor of the brigade was the 17th Heavy tank and Assault Gun Regiment. The formation of this regiment began in October 1950, and then the actual training of the troops began in November in Székesfehérvár. It was deployed to Baj in 1953, when it was renamed the 31st Heavy Tank and Assault Gun Regiment. In 1957, the regiment was moved to its current location, Tata. In 1961, the T-34 tanks were replaced by T-34 M type, then in 1962, for the first time in the Hungarian People's Army, the unit was equipped with T-55 type tanks. The 5th Infantry Brigade "István Bocskai" ( hu, MH 5. Bocskai István Lövészdandár), is a brigade-sized formation of the Hungarian Defence Forces. History The predecessor to brigade was formed in 1951 in Mezőtúr. After several restructurings during which the brigade was rebuilt into a mechanized infantry brigade, it was relocated to Debrecen in 1990. On September 29, 1990, the brigade adopted the name of István Bocskai. In 2004, the sub-units previously located in Nyíregyháza moved to Debrecen and Hajdúhadház.
