National-Christian Defense League
The National-Christian Defense League ( ro, Liga Apărării Național Creștine, LANC) was a Far-right politics, far-right political party of Romania formed by A. C. Cuza. Origins The LANC had its roots in the National Christian Union, formed in 1922 by Cuza and the famed physiologist Nicolae Paulescu. This group morphed in to the LANC in 1923. Much of LANC's ideas were framed within theology, theological arguments which were created by Nichifor Crainic, who served as Secretary General of LANC. The swastika became the symbol of Cuza's movement and appeared in its publications, booklets and electoral programs. Cuza claimed that the symbol was purely Romanian in character and denied that LANC had copied the Nazi party's symbol. By 1927, the party banner became the flag of Romania with a swastika in the centre. National Liberation Movement (Albania)
The National Liberation Movement ( sq, Lëvizja Nacional-Çlirimtare; or ''Lëvizja Antifashiste Nacional-Çlirimtare'' (LANÇ)), also translated as National Liberation Front, was an Albanian communist resistance organization that fought in World War II. It was created on 16 September 1942, in a conference held in Pezë, a village near Tirana, and was led by Enver Hoxha. Apart from the figures which had the majority in the General Council it also included known nationalists like Myslim Peza. In May 1944, the Albanian National Liberation Front was transformed into the government of Albania and its leaders became government members, and in August 1945, it was replaced by the Democratic Front. Arthur Lanc
Arthur Lanc (20 March 1907, in Vienna, Austria – 20 May 1995, in Gmuend, Lower Austria) was medical officer in Gmünd and responsible for the medical care for all Jewish forced laborers in the area of Gmünd. Administering medicine to these people was not allowed. Together with the veterinarian, Dr. Krisch, he set aside medicine for the Jewish forced laborers and helped three of them flee from a camp in Gmünd. Because of this medical care, the Jews managed to survive the NS-Terror in a hideout in the attic of the tannery Weißensteiner in Hoheneich. For that reason Lanc was honored by Yad Vashem by getting the honorary title Righteous among the Nations together with his wife Maria Lanc. Erwin Lanc
Erwin Lanc (born May 17, 1930) is a former Austrian bank employee and politician (SPÖ, Austrian Social Democratic Party). Biography Born in Vienna, Lanc worked at the Ministry of Social Affairs from 1949 to 1955. In 1959, he joined the Vienna-based Zentralsparkasse. In 1966, he became chairman of the SPÖ in the Margareten district A district is a type of administrative division that, in some countries, is managed by the local government. Maria Lanc
Maria Lanc (born Maria Jenewein; 1911 – 15 November 1995) was an Austrian humanitarian. She lived in Gmünd, Lower Austria with her husband Arthur Lanc, a medical officer, in 1944. He and his wife owned the house number 35 in Kirchengasse. In the early summer of 1944 a carriage of 1700 Hungarian Jews which were sheltered in a grain silo, arrived in Gmünd. Arthur and Maria Lanc decided to help the inmates of the camp by all available means to alleviate their suffering. They collected clothes, food, medicine and baby linen. In the late autumn of 1944 an order was issued that in case that the frontline approaches the Jews should be transferred to a concentration camp in order to be killed. The date for the evacuation of the Jews was assigned for the end of March. Avro Lancaster
The Avro Lancaster is a British Second World War heavy bomber. It was designed and manufactured by Avro as a contemporary of the Handley Page Halifax, both bombers having been developed to the same specification, as well as the Short Stirling, all three aircraft being four-engined heavy bombers adopted by the Royal Air Force (RAF) during the same wartime era. The Lancaster has its origins in the twin-engine Avro Manchester which had been developed during the late 1930s in response to the Air Ministry Specification P.13/36 for a medium bomber for "world-wide use" which could carry a torpedo internally, and make shallow dive-bombing attacks. Originally developed as an evolution of the Manchester (which had proved troublesome in service and was retired in 1942), the Lancaster was designed by Roy Chadwick and powered by four Rolls-Royce Merlins and in one of the versions, Bristol Hercules engines.
