Lammot Du Pont
Lammot du Pont I (April 13, 1831 – March 29, 1884) was a chemist and a key member of the du Pont family and its company in the mid-19th century. Early life Du Pont was born in 1831 in New Castle County, Delaware, the son of Margaretta Elizabeth (Lammot) and Alfred V. du Pont, and grandson of French-born Éleuthère Irénée du Pont de Nemours, the founder of E. I. du Pont de Nemours and Company. Lammot was born at Nemours, the family home built in 1824 and named in honor of the full family name. Lammot studied chemistry at the University of Pennsylvania, and obtained a bachelor of arts degree in 1849. Career He entered into the family business, and used his chemistry knowledge to patent B blasting powder in 1857. His invention used an inexpensive Peruvian and Chilean sodium nitrate, which he had discovered in 1858 could be used to manufacture black powder more cheaply than potassium nitrate. New Castle County, Delaware
New Castle County is the northernmost of the three counties of the U.S. state of Delaware (New Castle, Kent, and Sussex). As of the 2020 census, the population was 570,719, making it the most populous county in Delaware, with nearly 60% of the state's population of 989,948. The 5th Delaware Infantry Regiment was an infantry regiment in the Union Army during the American Civil War. Service The 5th Delaware Infantry Regiment was organized October 25, 1862 and mustered in November 26, 1862. The regiment was attached to District of Delaware, VIII Corps, Middle Department, to July 1863. 2nd Separate Brigade, VIII Corps, Middle Department, to August. Nitroglycerin (NG), (alternative spelling of nitroglycerine) also known as trinitroglycerin (TNG), nitro, glyceryl trinitrate (GTN), or 1,2,3-trinitroxypropane, is a dense, colorless, oily, explosive liquid most commonly produced by nitrating glycerol with white fuming nitric acid under conditions appropriate to the formation of the nitric acid ester. Louisa d'Andelot Carpenter (October 16, 1907 – February 8, 1976) was a du Pont family heiress, noted horsewoman, early woman aviator, Jazz Age socialite, and philanthropist. Biography Carpenter was born on October 16, 1907, to Robert Ruliph Morgan Carpenter and Margaretta Lammot du Pont (May 12, 1884 - May 1973). Her mother was the daughter of Lammot du Pont, grandson of the founder of E. I. du Pont de Nemours and Company. Lammot du Pont Copeland (May 19, 1905 – July 1, 1983) was an American businessman. Early life Copeland was the great-great-grandson of DuPont's founder, Eleuthère Irénée du Pont, and he served as the company's 11th president from 1962 to 1967. His parents were Charles Copeland (March 30, 1867 in Englewood, New Jersey – February 3, 1944) and Louisa d'Andelot du Pont (January 25, 1868 in New Castle County, Delaware – August 10, 1926), who were married on February 16, 1904, at St. Amour in Wilmington, Delaware.
