Newsy Lalonde
Édouard Cyrille "Newsy" Lalonde (October 31, 1887 – November 21, 1970) was a Canadian professional ice hockey forward in the National Hockey League (NHL) and a professional lacrosse player. Lalonde is regarded as one of hockey's and lacrosse's greatest players of the first half of the 20th century and one of Canadian sport's most colourful characters. He played for the Montreal Canadiens – considered to be the original "Flying Frenchman" – in the National Hockey Association and the NHL. He also played for the WCHL's Saskatoon Sheiks. Early life and family Lalonde was born to Pierre Lalonde (1847 – 1926) and Rose Lalonde (1849 – 1939). As a minor, he worked as, first, a reporter, then as a printer, for the Cornwall Freeholder and Woodstock, Ontario ''Express'' newspapers, where he acquired the "Newsy" moniker. Donny Lalonde (born March 12, 1960) is a retired professional boxer. His nickname is "Golden Boy," after the Golden Boy statue atop the Manitoba Legislative Building in his boxing home town of Winnipeg. Lalonde held the WBC Light Heavyweight Championship from 1987 to 1988. Early career Lalonde was born in Kitchener, Ontario, Canada. He got into boxing "to try to reestablish self-esteem, respect, pride," he said. "Boxing is a way of doing that." Lalonde had an amateur record of 11-4 and turned professional in 1980. Early professional career Lalonde won his first four fights and then lost a six-round decision to Wilbert "Vampire" Johnson in March 1981. Michèle Lalonde
Michèle Lalonde (July 28, 1937 – July 22, 2021) was a Canadian dramatist, essayist, playwright and poet for print and radio. She began her career as a writer and publisher while studying for a Bachelor of Arts degree at the Université de Montréal. Throughout her career, Lalonde worked at the editorial boards of the magazine ''Situations'', the journal '' Liberte'' and ''Maintenant''. She authored historical plays and collections of poems and won the 1980 Prix Duvernay from the Saint-Jean-Baptiste Society. Lalonde was professor of the history of civilizations at the National Theatre School of Canada, served as president of both the Fédération internationale des écrivains de langue française and the Quebec Writers' Union, and was a member of the Order of Francophones of America. Shawn Beauchamp-Lalonde (born March 10, 1990) is a Canadian professional ice hockey defenceman. He is currently playing with HC Dinamo Minsk in the Kontinental Hockey League (KHL). Playing career As a youth, Lalonde played in the 2003 Quebec International Pee-Wee Hockey Tournament with a minor ice hockey team from Cumberland, Ontario. Lalonde was drafted 68th overall by the Chicago Blackhawks in the 2008 NHL Entry Draft. Lalonde signed a three-year entry-level contract with the Blackhawks on December 31, 2009. At the time, Lalonde played for the Belleville Bulls, a junior team in the Ontario Hockey League. Raymond Lalonde (October 22, 1940 – December 30, 2022) was an American politician who was a Republican member of the Louisiana House of Representatives from Carencro in Lafayette Parish. He resided in the town of Sunset in St. Landry Parish. He served in the Louisiana House from 1980 to 1996. Early years and education Lalonde was born and reared on a farm in a rural area near Arnaudville. Following his graduation from Leonville High School, Lalonde served four years in the United States Air Force as a technician on the B-52s and KC-135s.
