Alexi Lalas
Panayotis Alexander "Alexi" Lalas ( el, Αλέξης Λάλας; born June 1, 1970) is an American retired soccer player who played mostly as a defender. Lalas is best known for his participation with the United States men's national soccer team in the 1994 FIFA World Cup, where he was a standout player on the team with his distinctive long beard and hair. After the World Cup, Lalas went on to become the first American in Italy's Serie A as a member of Calcio Padova.Thiessay on U.S. soccer history, however, indicates that other two American-born players, Alfonso Negro and Armando Frigo, appeared for Serie A teams in the late 1930s, making Lalas the third American-born player in the Italian top league. Sita Ram Lalas
Sitaram Lalas (29 December 1912 – 29 December 1986) (known as Sita Ramji maadsaab) was a linguist and lexicographer of India. He produced a written dictionary of the Rajasthani language – first ever in the language with name: Rajasthani Shabd (Sabada) Kosh and Rajasthani Hindi Brihad Kosha. This perhaps is one of the voluminous dictionaries of the world consisting of more than words. The dictionary contains not only the meanings but the origin, synonyms, idioms and phrases based upon each word. It is named ''Rajasthani Bhasha-Sahitya evam Vyakarana'' and was first published in 1962.The volume was acclaimed as a significant academic work by national and international scholars. The volume included two hundred thousand (200,000) words. Dr Sitaram Lalas devoted 40 years in the compilation of this outstanding work and was awarded Padma Shri in 1977 for his contribution. Steven John Lalas
Steven John Lalas ( el, Σταύρος Ιωάννης Λάλας, Stavros Ioannis Lalas; born 1953) is an American of Greek descent and former State Department communications officer. Charged with espionage-related offenses in connection with passing sensitive military and diplomatic information to Greece, he was arrested in USA through an FBI sting operation. Lalas pled guilty in federal court to one count of conspiracy to commit espionage, he was sentenced to 14 years in prison. Later paroled, Lalas emigrated to Greece to serve out the remainder of his parole. Vytautas Lalas
Vytautas Lalas (born 21 July 1982) is a Lithuanian professional strongman the winner of the 2013 Arnold Strongman Classic and runner up of the 2012 World's Strongest Man. Strongman Lalas won the junior Lithuanian championships in 2005, and Lithuania's Strongest Man in 2010. Lalas won the Giants Live Poland event on 8 August 2010. This victory qualified Lalas for the 2010 World's Strongest Man competition in Sun City, South Africa, but he was unable to qualify for the finals. Lalas placed third in the 2011 Giants Live London event in March 2011, this placing qualified him for the 2011 World's Strongest Man contest later that year in Wingate, North Carolina. Battle Of Lalas
The Battle of Lalas would prove to be one of the first major skirmishes between the Greek rebels and the combined Ottoman and Muslim-Albanian forces during the Greek War of Independence. The outcome of the battle lay the foundation for the struggle against Ottoman rule in the Peloponnese. Background When the Greek Revolution commenced on 21 February 1821, a member of the Filiki Eteria named Andreas Metaxas along with his brother Anastasios and his cousin Konstantinos Metaxas, took it upon themselves to assemble a military contingent of 350 volunteers with two cannons from Kefalonia. Aiming to join the revolutions cause, they managed to board a ship which was equipped with 18 cannons, 50 sailors, and 50 gunmen, and sail to Glarentza which they reached in early May 1821.
